Wild Hogs in San Diego County

What's the best rifle to hunt wild hogs with? What kind? semi-auto? lever action? what caliber is best?

My favorite is the Marlin .45-70 guide gun. Never know if you're going to run into a big mean one. Dunno if they're approved in Kalifornia tho.

I'm on the border of San Diego County - where are these hogs located? A .45 Colt would work real good. The .45/70 is good but too much gun if there is such a thing.

What a coincidence, I generally carry a .45 Colt as well! 45-70 is a big, slow chunk of lead, not a monster magnum. It's also very quick and accurate for the ranges I shoot.

I'm a fan of the .45/70 and nothing is better than big/giant slow bullets. I just think the .45 Colt is perfect for a 200 to 300 pound hog. With Buffalo Bore or Garrett Cartridge ammunition you could easily kill anything on earth with the .45/70. I'm thinking a .45 Colt 300 grain LBT WFN at around 1,000 fps would ruin a hog's day.

What do you have? Any rifle capable of taking deer will take a wild pig. Contrary to reports on this and other forums, they are not armor plated, red-eyed, malevolent killing machines. They're just pigs. Whack one in the middle of the shoulder with a 30-06 or a 270 or a 30-30 and it lays down. Go kill 'em.
