wierd trigger behavior on Rem 700

After making my first reloads for my Rem 700 ADL .30-06, I figured that I'd better do something about reducing the really stiff out-of-the-box trigger pull. Before, I was reluctant to mess with it but I'm really curious about my reload accuracy and I typically can't pull the trigger on this gun without considerable force (which always makes me want to flinch).
So, I took the action out and was looking at what screws I'd have to play with per the instructions that I had. I changed my mind again and decided to by an aftermarket drop in trigger by Timney or Jewell.
But, upon putting the gun back together, without ever having adjusted any screws other that those involved in removing the trigger guard and barrel, I found that the trigger pull had dropped considerably! And, it's at a level where I'm comfortable leaving it.
I know that some instructions said that cleaning the trigger group out might remove factory grit that would be causing stiff trigger pull but I really did nothing of the sort.
Anyone have any idea as to what might have happened?

Your trigger might have been rubbing where it passes through the stock making the trigger pull feel heavier. When you pulled it out and replaced it you probably put it back in different so it didn't rub making the trigger pull feel lighter. Check the stock area and trigger to see if there are any signs of contact.

Where did you get the directions for lightening the trigger? The reason I ask is that I know of place that has a really easy explaination on how to do it. I'm not very mechanically inclined and I had no problem making my triggers break at an even 2.5lbs with no over travel or creep. It was at www.snipercountry.com in the Articles and Commentary section under How to...

I second the Snipercountry instructions. They were very easy to follow and I was very pleased with my results. 3 lbs, no slack. Also no problems... :)
