Wichita Single Shot

Was browsing for something else today when i ran across a Wichita Single shot in something oddball, I can't even remember what. Obviously a custom made pistol I had not heard of, so I slapped it into google and when a website for a still active company popped up my heart raced.
Get on their site and it lists the pistol, but says call for availability.. Give em a ring and get a hold of a guy who I am guessing is the owner. He answerred something like "uh, yeah." Anyways I ask him if they make 'em in 470 and he says they don't make 'em anymore, but do I want a bolt action. I ask him if they make those in 460 SW and he says they don't make the bolt actions anymore either, but he does have a 7-30 waters single shot new old stock. Necked cartridge so i can't use it in Ohio, so I tell him I'm not interested.

The conversation was actually longer and less fluid than I made it out to be.

Anyways, cool looking design, and they apparently only have one left, asking $750 for it, so if anyone likes the 7-30 waters give them a call.

Beware the one who answers the phone, he may not make much sense to you, he didn't to me.

I wasn't aware they were still in business. a friend of mine had the bolt action silhouette pistol in 7 mm IHMSA and while it shot very good . I think in general that the company had a "hit & miss" quality standard from what I remember. this was back in the early 1980's. their prices were also to the affect that they were very proud of their stuff

From what I understood of my conversation with the guy, they only make the modified MK IIIs at this point as far as pistols. I had to go through each model one at a time to get this info though.

I have a break-open Wichita silhouette pistol in 7mm IHMSA Rimmed. I ordered it when the gun was announced. It's s/n 80 (I was heavy into handgun metallic silhouette at the time).

The gun's extremely accurate. I worked up several loads that would shoot 1" groups at 100 yds with a scope. 4" groups at 200 meters with open sights was routine. Scopes weren't allowed in metallic silhouette competition back then. The trigger's set at about a half pound.

The cartridge is the 30-30 necked down to 7mm. It's easy to get 2,000+ fps with 154 - 162 gr bullets, but the recoil isn't much fun. My best loads were the 139 at 1673, the 154 at 1676 and the 175 gr at 1414. All were very accurate and I shot a lot of 40X40 and 80X80 scores with them.
