I'm not from there, but I think that Wichita, proper, has some BS regs. on handguns. Might consider that when you look for a place to live around town. They even advertise in visitor's guides about how "progressive" they are on gun control the last time I was there.

Kansas law allows open carry of firearms. However, Kansas law does not preempt local ordinances. Thus, a city council can legally forbid the carrying or possession of firearms within the city limits-provided they can get away with it. I don't know what the local ordinances say in Wichita. They are probably less restrictive than the eastern cities such as Topeka and Lawrence due to the attitudes of the majority.

Kansas law also forbids the carrying of knives with the exception that folding knives with a blade 4 inches or less are legal.

Here in Oklahoma, Shall Issue concealed carry is the law. Also, folding knives of any blade length are legal under state law but it is not preempted. There are local ordinances that prohibit possession blades greater than 4 inches, but they are rarely enforced. Fixed blades are legal for recreational purposes-who by the way doesn't practice self-defense as a hobby? ;)

Good Luck in Whichita. It is an otherwise great place.

The best place in town would have to be Bullet Stop.

They're good people and they also sell firearms, reloading supplies and other necessities.

Dude, I lived north of Wichita for about 5 years and grew up near Lawrence. Kansas is surprisingly leftist. We had Nancy Kassabaum for a Senator. She was nice, but a socialist. They can't get a concealed carry law past the Governor. I do miss the better quality of service there than I see (in general) here in the South.

I don't live in Wichita, can't comment about local laws but I do go there often. I will second Nekron's suggestion about Bullet Stop. Haven't had time to try out the indoor range but that's my stop for reloading supplies when I'm in town. There's also a place called Bullseye with indoor range but it's been a couple of years since I've been there.

Just found this at www.dumblaws.com apparently this law is still on the books;
"Before proceeding through the interesection of Douglas and Broadway, a motorist is required to get out of their vehice and fire three shot gun rounds into the air." If anyone reading this is in Wichita, give it a try and let us know how it works out!
