Why would heat shields on a Bushmaster 16" carbine be misaligned

I have a BM carbine and the metal heat shield inside the handguards is misaligned: the holes are about 50% off from the cut-outs in the plastic handguards. Any idea as to why that is so and if it is detrimental to anything other than cosmetics?

Other than poor QC, the misaligned heat shields shouldn't give you any trouble.

Oleg , my Bushmaster shorty has the same problem . I you stick a small pin punch through the hole in the handguard you should be able to slide the metal insert back in place , when you fire the weapon it will slide back . I tried JB weld on the shield and it did not hold . The shield slides in a groove in the plastic handguard , if you can find something to stick to both pieces it should stay put . I see no problems with it being misaligned . Good luck , Mike...

My CAR upper doesn't even have heatshields in the handguards  But it's a MG upper with the 5.5" hider on it. I think I'm going to put M4s on it.

I am pretty sure they aluminum shields can be slid back and removed for cleaning(they were in the m-16 when I was in the miltary. It sounds like they are either sliding back like mike said or they just didn't get installed completly.

I'd not worry about it. I'd certainly NOT take the heatshields out. There is no reason to clean the other side of them and merely wiping any fouling off the side that faces the barrel should do good.
