Why waste time arguing with the extreme left?

There is an old Yiddish proverb which states when a wise man starts arguing with a fool what you end up with are two fools arguing.

If people on the extreme left wish to ban gun ownership, institute some form of socialism/communism, or push for hiring practices based on race rather than merit, what would be the point in wasting your valuable energy on them.

Instead we should be saving our time and energy for political fundriasing, voter turnout drives, and other proactive forms of engagement. The best thing we can do is lead by example.

Why argue at all?

Debate, make your point, leave to mull over what they said to you, they will hopefully do the same.

Done, fini, move on.

You are both right.

We need not bother with either the extreme right facist or the extreme left whack-jobs.

We need to spend out time teaching by example to those that can be taught. The people that fall in the middle of the two extremes. this includes everyone from the true liberals to the true conservatives.

maybe a few of the extremests on both side should be popped in the a--- with a nail shot out of a straw and then they can debate with the paper and plastic companies about banning straws, nails and leave the hunters alone for a few yrs.
look at what McVeigh done with a U-Haul, some fertilizer and fuel oil, i can still purchase all 3 with no problem.

This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! – Adolph Hitler [1935] The Weapons Act of Nazi Germany.

Can't we all just get along? Can't we find a peaceful place to coexist?...

What is light without dark, good without evil, bagels without lox?

KUMBAYAAAA M'LORD, KUMBAYAAAAAAAAAAA.

Well a bumper sticker I saw on my son's truck says it all.

"My Political Party Sucks...And So Does Yours!"

We have the leftists wanting to take our guns by statute. We have the Right Wing Neo-Cons wanting to take our guns by Presidential order during martial law, as allowed recently under the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act."

One of the reasons the Right Wing nutballs were sent home, was them passing stuff like the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act" and one of the reasons the Left Wing nutballs will get tossed out next election, will occur due to their introducing gun (confiscation/registry/comon sense safety/insert favorite term here) legislation designed to disarm us by statute.

We need a new party, whose platform is nothing but textual interpretation of the constitution.

Only then will you see a free nation again.

Actually, I do not think enough middle of the road people care enough about gun control to really mind new gun control laws. I think they would just not be on most people's radar screen. They are more concerned with jobs, healthcare, education, the war, etc. That is why we need to start making friends in the center and on the left. If we try to keep guns a right of center issue we are in for a world of hurt.

Instead of taking the "you nutjob lefties are always taking our guns and you will have to pry them from our cold, dead hands" approach, which just makes them feel like they have been challenged to a fight, we need to take the approach of "are you lefties aware of what some govt radicals are trying oto do to our rights to defend our families?" which makes them feel as if we are reaching out to them for understanding and assistance.

I live in Portland, OR...the land of the lefty. You would be suprised at how many of them actually have no idea what gun laws really are and how they affect people.

This is very true. To the average person, whether there sons/grandsons will be pulling tours over in Iraq or whether they'll be laid off this year are much more pressing concerns than whether they can own an AK-47. Even the image we portray to the world, what with the torture and military prison camps and all, is probably more important to the average American than the right to own a machine gun. And, to be honest, I'm much more concerned with our swelling prison population, especially since we lock so many up for 'consensual' crimes (possession of mind-altering substances, for instance), than whether I can buy a rocket launcher.

For a vast majority of people, as long as they can buy a handgun and/or shotgun to defend their homes, and a rifle to hunt with, they're perfectly happy. And in a vast majority of states, cities, and counties in this country this level of freedom is in no real jeopardy. So for as long as gun rights remain a right-of-center issue, you'll never convince many moderate liberals to give much of a crap.

The above almost made me pee my pants.:D

I'm glad you said it so I didn't have to.

Except fascism is also on the left: A. it's an all powerful central government (leftism), B. it's socialism (albeit national socialism, but LEFTIST nonetheless). It makes me shudder that the "school" system has an entire nation misunderstanding what's on the "left" and what's on the "right." On the extreme right is anarchy. To the left of anarchists (but of course not on the "left" of center) are the ANTI FEDERALISTS. One more step to the left (but still nowhere near left of center) are the Federalists. Current americans have been brainwashed to not only be to the left of the federalists (who turned out to be WRONG-Patrick Henry and the anti federalists turned out to be correct), but they are considerably left of center. When I see bush described as "far right" I do this     . Him and his expansion of medicare, out of control spending, massive federal power grabs etc, are so bloody far to the left he can't even SEE center!

Vermont Carry,

I will have to disagree with your definitions of right and left. I will concede that they may have some text book merit but they are completely out of touch with the far right and far left of our own current political movement. That is the far right and far left we are currently discussing and dealing with in our country.

In our political envoiroment today, the far right has shown a desire to allow those with money and large corporations to set the rules. They determine the law of the land without question and tell the have nots what is best for them. The far left allows the nutbags with good intentions but no real common sense that want to play wetnurse to everyone decide the law of the land and what is best for everyone.

When I hear the far right and far left talk, I came to the conclusion that
nobody has a monopoly completely for right and wrong. They can be wrong
or right sometimes. When somebody takes a extreme position, I always
hear hatred and maligning of the other position without adequately explaining
their own position . Common sense is out ofthe door!
I would rather hear somebody say his position, then explain the reasons
with facts, and data, rather than attacking the other person.
There is just too much false propaganda floating around. A lot of people
have wrapped themselves disguised as journalists but they're actually
partisans and flame throwers. For all our anxiety about guns, we are
probably still going to have them so long as we emphasize responsible
ownership, training and proper usage.
