Why the Elian disaster is like Crimson Tide

Those of you that have seen Crimson Tide (Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington) will understand. At the very end of the movie, when they both stand before the Admiral (Jason Robards), the Admiral says:

"You both have made one HELL of a mess. In the eyes of the Navy, you were both right.... and you were both wrong. These are issues which the Navy will be grappling with long after you leave this room."

I think it's going to take 10+ years, dozens of lawsuits (that cameraman is a rich man; he just doesn't know it yet), and hundreds of millions in lawyers fees/fines/jail time, to sort out all the "mess" that was made on Saturday. It's going to get real ugly, and I think a Constitutional crisis is indeed upon us. One that makes Nixon look like a chump amateur by comparison.

Food for thought, anyway....

Exactly.

The disgusting thing about this and the other examples of power abuse is that they know they are in violation, and they knowingly use the "time loophole".....they achieve their desires and it will be tied up in court in the later years on someone else's watch.
What I don't understand, though, is why aren't injunctions filed that shelve the enaction until the courts have ruled.

I never saw the end of "Crimson Tide." It was so full of BS I left maybe a third of the way through the movie.

Yeah I know. Wife & I were laughing through most of it. But we love the sound track, so we suffer through it. Really bad, BAD film.

Awful. But great music.
