Why no lever action .45acp?

The feed mechanism in lever guns are designed to work with rimmed cartrigdes. The extractors also have a problem with small rimmed cartrigdes. This is the same reason that the original version of the .45 Colt was never used in lever guns until that cartridge was redesigned some years ago with a wider rim.

The reason for the small rim was the size of the cylinder in the .45 SAA, the gun the cartridge was made for. There are still problems with some of the lever guns, so all the bugs are still not worked out, but demand from the CAS folks got guns in that caliber. Reloading can sometimes be a problem too. A stuck case will almost always result in tearing through the rim.
