    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Why is TFL down so often?

Seems like once or twice a week for a day or so TFL is having problems or is down. Other forums don't seem to have this problem, at least not to this degree. What continues to be the problem?

Uhh... That's pretty much what he's doing here, pointer.

Rich or Tyme will be able to answer the question better than me, but I know it has something to do with servers, hosting, co-location and other technical terms that I don't completely understand.

Clear as mud?

Glad I could help. ;)

The glorious speed and reliability lately is directly related to the lack of keyword searching for going on 1.5 weeks now.

In June we had a problem with our CoLo host company. They basically went belly up and it took an attorney and 10 weeks to get our servers back.

During that time we were on a borrowed server; between setup, tweaking and the fact that it was not a barn burner, we saw our share of problems and shut downs. About two weeks ago, tyme reinstalled our own server into the new CoLo....naturally that took some tweaking also.

The basic problem we face now, as I understand it, is the database that vBulletin runs on (MySQL) and the manner in which vB performs searches. The search function is ugly and the database has not met its promise in terms of handling large volumes....that's why most sites our size archive old threads.
