Why I love Glocks but don't have any

No one is allowed to post inflamatory remarks on this thread. :) This is not a flame of Glocks in any way nor is it an offering at the Glock altar. But I've got to tell you why I love the Glocks.

I think the Glock is ugly and looks like a piece of melted milk carton. The larger Glocks just don't feel good in my hand although the midsize and mini's do. Due to certain "mandated" carry options, I've not felt comfortable with a Glock stuck in my pants sans holster and a round in the pipe.

That being said, the 2 Glocks that I've owned (19 & 26) would feed anything at all, were utterly reliable, went "bang" everytime the trigger was pulled and were easily concealable. They had good magazine capacity and night sights. They were easily maintainable, breakdown was easy and cleaning was no problem. They were accurate as they needed to be, which is more than I'm capable of.

The Glocks, as ugly as I think they are, were functionable, reliable and just filled the bill.

So why don't I have any? Had to sell the 19 because I couldn't get it registered in my country of residence and the law was REALLY cracking down. The 26, well sort of the same thing and a good offer. :D

Will I have any more? You betcha!!!

So what is your love/hate relationship or love/love relationship with the Glock?

Sorry to hear that you can't have your Glocks where you live...where is that by the way?
I have a Glock 22 .40..I have put over 30,000 rounds through it without a single ftf that wasn't my fault due to me playing around with some wimpy reloads.
It consitently shoots sub 2" groups at 25 yards.
And the longer I have it, the prettier it gets..

I, too, thought the Glocks were ugly when they first arrived here in the US. I was a devout 1911 (.38 Super) fan and nothing looked better to me than blued steel and walnut.

Then I found a Glock 17 at a pawn shop for so little money (the owner didn't think much of them either) I couldn't resist. I took it home, detail stripped it (so easy I couldn't believe it), and marveled at it's utter simplicity and complete lack of any hand fitted parts. I loaded it up (thinking I'd never get both 17 round mags full) took it out back and fired it.

It was, for me, an epiphany. :D In that instant, I experienced what I call my Total Glock Conversion Episode. I no longer own any 1911s, but do own four Glocks (and three Kel-Tecs).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me, Glocks are gorgeous!

Boneyard, I've lived in San Salvador, El Salvador for the past 11 years, going on 12. Talk about shootouts, you should have been here during the civil war. You would not believe the prices of Glocks, Sigs, HKs etc here. Way upwards of $ 800 to $ 1,500.

My Glock 26 was with me on many occasions even when it wasn't supposed to be. Yes, I risked getting stuck in a "real" jail for a long time but figured that my life was worth it. I felt really good knowing that I had 21 rounds of 9mm Black Talon. We can get that here and there is no limit on mag capacity at all. :p

Ugly? I look at Glocks as a piece of minamalistic art. The plain black color and the simple and understated lines are aestetically pleasing to the eye. The simple function of the gun appeals to my pragmatic side. The feel of the weapon and natural pointablity satisfies my tactile desires.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think Glocks are utterly gorgeous. Their pure utilitarian design is IMNSHO as close to perfect as you can get.

I don't own any Glocks, however, and sold the two (a 20C and 26) that I used to own. Why? Because of Glock's sucking-up to F-Troop with their ballistic database. Since both of mine were less than 3 years old, they're in the database, and that scares the aitch-ee-double-toothpicks out of me.

That really sucks, too, since I'd love to get a G30 for carry, and none of the Glocksters hereabouts are selling. Sigh. :(

Coinneach: Err. . . . I don't think it was THAT great an idea selling your Glocks.

A: If the company (for whatever reason) wants to trace your guns there's still a trail back to you.

B: With the guns in your possession, they would (presumably) never be used in a crime. Now, someone else CAN use them in a crime - see part A.

C: If you REALLY wanted the gun to be trace-proof - consider what you lost turning your gun around. If the barrel worries you, it can be swapped - firing pin likewise, and the breechface- don't people polish breechface to get rid of feed problems? Even if you did not want the expense, sheesh - sounds like a file could change the profile!! :)
