Why has the anodising on my Colt Pony frame turned dark grey?

Same thing hapened to my Inox Beretta 92. I traced it to the gun oil I was using at the time. It is a much darker shade of gray than new ones at the dealer. It has lightened back a bit since I changed lubricants a few years back, but have lost hope of it ever being the original color. I now use RemOil with no further ill effects.

Same thing happened on a buddy's SW6906. Keep on eye out for unsightly gray spots that might develop.

I have spots on mine. I am fairly certain they were caused by body sweat since I carry it in a Kramer holster shirt nearly every day. I don't think there is much I can do about.
 
My buddy never did find a way to get rid of the spots. Apparently they're rust stains. He babies it now and no longer carries it since he went Glock. Despite his profuse sweating, living in a humid wet climate, he hasn't been able to get his Glock 19 to rust yet.

The solvent that I was using was called "nitro solvent" can't remember the manufacturer. Came in a blue can. Oil was good old BreakFree, as I didn't know any better. Grease on the slides was RIG. I don't know which or a combination that did it, but it has stopped since a switch to other products and I use them sparingly.
