Why Gore is doing this

He has nowhere to go. If Bush loses, he goes back to his new ranch and his duties as a very popular governor; not bad. But Gore can't go "home" to Tennessee; he couldn't even carry the state, after reversing every position that once got him elected to Congress from there. Unlike most of these guys, he's not a lawyer, because he dropped out of law school. He's too personally repulsive to get hired as front man for some foundation or other organization. He has no experience in the business world and is known to be positively hostile to private enterprise. He's like a cornered rat, looking at a choice between being President or...what?

It isn't just Gore. There are a lot of Democrats who believe that bending the law is wise when faced with loosing power. They believe that their cause is more important that the Constitution of the United States. They must save the country from Republican control. It is their duty to the country to stay in power.

GOP would do the exact same thing if the tables were turned.

At least be realistic and not blinded to think your politicians are more moral.

EnochGale, I disagree. GW has nowhere near the driven, obsessive personality that Gore has, and his alternatives are a lot better. In the Senate races, John Ashcroft's behavior in Missouri shows the difference. In the case of the Presidency, if GW and his people started going down this path, elder statesmen in the GOP would stop it, men like Dole, Ford, and especially Bush, Sr. In the Democratic Party, who are the elder statesmen who put the nation's interests first? Bill Clinton? Carter might try, but no one would pay any attention to him. I just don't see anyone with the inclination and stature to provide effective counsel in this situation.

No, the GOP wouldn't do the same thing. Consider the elction was stolen from Nixon in 1960, he didn't protest. The election was likely stolen from Ford in 1976, he didn't protest. Finally the GOP is learning that the Demotraitors want a fight. There's a counter suit in Florida against hand counting in heavy Demotraitor counties because hand countig is notoriously corrupt. There's now a law suit in Wisconsin against abuse, and likely more to come in California and New Mexico. Remember that Baker said that Bush wasn't looking for a fight, but he would defend the interests of the GOP (and in this case the nation) if necessary.

Gore could become a weapons instructor. His specialty, of course, would be the M-16.

Gore is simply acting as any Socialist would to further the cause of Socialism. "Uncle Joe" (as FDR called him) Stalin once explained that the ends justify the means.

I expect he can't back down, even if he wanted to. Too many backers who want the power that goes with a Gore administration most likely have the goods to put Gore in prison if he doesn't go all the way with this.

Bruels: Not to mention the absolute need to keep the Justice department under Democratic control, in order to keep Clinton, Gore, and numerous lower level Democrats from being prosecuted for crimes they committed during the last 8 years.

You too,Brett!

Scary that there are so many socialist dupes in this country, isn't it?

"He has nowhere to go." Well, I can offer a suggestion ;) .

The Democrats have been pulling this stuff for years. Remember two or so years ago when Rahm Emmanuel, a senior White House advisor, said "We're bending the law as far as we can to capture a new class of guns?" Well, substitute "election" for "guns." The same mindset.

Here in Milw, we had homeless people voting for Gore in exchange for cigarettes (how do you prove residency if you're homeless?). We had Marquette University students using their student ID's to vote, then coming back with their drivers licenses to vote again.

If Bush decides to play hardball with Gore, I won't think any less of him. I'm sick of these people bending the laws to suit their own purposes.

Hah! Someone should send that one to Jessie Jackson, without saying where it came from. He'd probably like it and go around repeating it.

So, EnochGale, everyone is the same, all sins are alike, there is no good and bad, all politicians lie ...

I think I know where you're coming from, and ... I don't care to go there.

The Republicans can point to two historical incidents very similar to this one - 1960 and 1976. They tossed in the towel. Are there any similar examples available for liberals? And, that is an honest question.
