Why Don't More Shotguns Have Detachable Magazines?

Because they're not sporting, the demand isn't there to support civilian production, the magazines can have issues feeding -especially if left full for a while

For tactical purposes you can load a tube fed magazine as you go and insert a specific round. If you buy a Saiga there is no last round bolt hold open so you are at a big disadvantage at that point. There really is no need for a detachable magazine either for sporting, HD, or combat. With shotguns it is the proverbial "soution" to no problem in the first place.

Another part is technical difficulties.

The 12 gauge shotshell is a rimmed cartridge. This makes it much more difficult to make a box magazine since rim-lock needs to be specifically addressed.

The other part is that demand isn't really there. The vast majority of shotguns are sporting shotguns, and many of them are easily adapted to tactical use with a super cool stock and extended mag tube anyways. With a big ugly box mag sticking out, such a shotgun might also be less useful for sporting purposes as well.

Now, make your comments regarding PUMP guns, and your statements are quite true..................(However, the VAST majority of sporting shotguns tend to be O/U and semis....;))

Because it doesn't really work as well as you'd think.

You have to practice a LOT to get the mag changes going quickly on a Saiga. A tube fed shotgun isn't any slower.
