Ok, Im not gonna lie. Im a little bit of a Kimber fan boy. Where I work we are Kimber Master Dealers, and I even qualified with, and daily carry a Kimber Tactical Ultra II. I love the Kimber Onyx and I have also been wanting the Micro 9. The way I see it is kill two birds with one stone and buy an Onyx Micro 9 when it comes out…. Smart right? :D Well apparently Kimber only likes making special edition guns in the highly coveted Sapphire. Its not my taste but hey, that’s another rant.

So what I want to know is out of the Four main special editions (Sapphire, Amethyst, Diamond or Onyx) which one do you like best? Is Kimber right and everybody loves the Sapphire, or does anybody else think there’s more to pistols than just blue ones?

I always preferred just their standard blued finish. Sapphire and Amethyst are ugly as sin, IMO.

I guess if I had to choose I'd go with the Onyx.

Never heard of it either. I had to look it up. It's just a blueish looking Colt Mustang. So, Sig copied the Colt Mustang first and now Kimber makes a copy in varying colors. Has Kimber actually ever designed a firearm? Or, does it just copy others?

It's too expensive. To spend that much money on a gun it would have to be higher quality. Kimber's best guns are all under $1K IMO where they hold an edge over other midgrade new 1911's. Their fancy colored schemed guns are not really practical for daily carry and not collectible enough to hold value.

I have officially had my laugh for the day. The Micro Bel Air really does remind me of a 1957 Chevy.

Kimber makes some good-looking 1911s. If the colors appeal to you, the Sapphire is a striking pistol that really stands out. Now, why the Sapphire is more popular than other special editions: I have no idea.

If you prefer 1911s that look really pretty, are made with low-quality metal and poor quality control, and are sold at a premium price, then Kimber is a great choice.

Perhaps.

I have a stainless Eclipse Ultra 2 (with the dreaded external extractor) which shoots rings around the Colts, Glocks, Para's, that I've owned. :D

Sure, not all Kimbers are bad, but a higher percentage of them have issues compared to other 1911s in the same price range. Literally five minutes ago I had a customer who was shooting on our range and was having issues with both of his Kimbers, and they're pretty much new. He even had an instructor shoot it to make sure the issue wasn't him.

Just because you have a good Kimber doesn't mean that a lot of other people don't have problems. Sure, every company produces lemons, but Kimber produces far too many than you should expect for the prices they charge.
