Why do you prefer a Revolver to a Semi-auto??

Just in a nut-shell, why do you guys like Revolvers versus Semi-autos? I am just curious to see the varying reasons...

Well, just for me, they "feel" right to me. No magazines to fool with. No concern about spring set (even though that is not much concern). Less things going on when firing. More accurate in my hands, as a rule. No brass to chase. A neat rythym in firing. I have nothing against semi-autos and there are some I really like a lot. But for almost all my shooting, a revolver does everything I need done and I like the idea of devoting my range time to a minimum of platforms in the hope that makes me better with those platforms. I choose revolvers to fill that role. More a "sense" of rightness than anything else. I just like 'em.

NO stovepipes, bad magazine followers/springs, bad extractors/ejectors, double feeds, failure to lock back or ammunition failures that require a drill to clear. I do have semi-autos. I was born to the revolver generation though.

I like autos and wheel guns, just like I used to date both blondes and brunettes before I got married ...

To me, a wheelgun is a beautiful piece of machinery and also VERY reliable for SD. I don't have any other reason except I just plain like the look and feel of them plus the sense of history.

The majority of my pistols are autos, however, which are also very cool with a great deal of history around them.

I basically agree with Laz. A revolver feels right in my hand. It points more naturally for me, and I am more accurate with them. I also just prefer the look and action of them. It's not that I don't like semi autos, I do have a few of them as well, and generally like the ones that I have. In fact, if I were a cop or in the miltary (and if I actually had a choice) I would carry an auto. But it would take a lot more practice for me than what I have presently done with them.

More reliable
No flying brass
Shoots any ammo
No clearing "one in the chamber"
Don't have to rack it to begin shooting
Feels better
Looks better
No jammed spent rounds
Easier to clean
Never (or rarely) have to field strip
Can change look dramatically with grips
No spring problems
Enjoy the trigger pull more
Don't have to carry it cocked and locked to be ready
Reliable reliable reliable

Because revolvers are the straight up whisky compared to the frou frou drinks you see at the ranges these days.

I prefer the revolver for my "bump-in-the-night" gun because you only have to point and shoot.

That being said, I really like my semi-autos too.....

Here's a perspective from a brand new gun owner. I've wanted to own a handgun for 21 years (since I was 9) and finally got one, a 3" ruger GP-100. The revolver will fire when you press the trigger, if for some reason it doesn't, pull the trigger again which is your instinct when adrenalin is pumping anyway.

Secondly, the quality of a good revolver means it will be worthy to pass on to my son some day, it is an instant heirloom. I am already saving for a S&W 637 for my next purchase. I also like not having to mess around with magazines, a revolver with speedloader is just simple snd fun to operate. I occasionally use an auto (M9 and soon the SIG 229) for work but I have a lot more fun with a revolver, and having seen numerous jams/FTF's, don't want that complexity for a housegun.

My revolvers are usually large bored powerhouses. Revolvers just plain do those kind of cartridges better.

Because 99.99999 percent of the time the revolver will work. Auto ?,I don`t think so. It will mess up right when you need it.

plus one to norton. I don't have to think about it. point and shoot.
I also like the way it carries IWB. Low center of gravity and thin grip.
conceals well, not top heavy.

Revolvers are just plain pretty, for one. They're also simple and effective - and all-out reliable. I like autos as well, but there's just so much more... character... in a revolver.

I started out on revolvers. We became friends long ago and I just have fun shooting revolvers. Is there any other reason?

The first handgun I fired was a revolver. Granted I own two semi's I'm waiting to save up some cash to buy a beautiful revolver.

I can appreciate the stylings of a fine piece of metal, and the simplistic nature of their design and function. (except that new .460 snubby from smithh which is... err... unique!)

Easy to maintain, not much to go wrong unless you get a 'lemon'... I like having the option of double action or single action, instead of my XD's single action only.

Snubbies are easier to conceal, and with a hammerless option they make a nice pocket gun.

Come to think of it, why did I buy a semi? heh I dunno

Got my start with a revolver and shot them exclusively for several years. With the right grips they feel better in my hand and there is no gun that looks better than a well blued revolver. The way light plays across the machined curves speaks to me of craftsmanship. I use semi-autos but compared to a nice revolver they seem to be efficient machines somewhat lacking in soul and nostalgia.

Fewer things can go wrong with it, it's simple and ready to go no safety to pop off, no cartridges raining all over the place (irritating the shooter to your right at the range :D ). No magazines to struggle reloading at the range.

^ it's funny you mention irritating the shooter next to you. Perhaps thinking about irritating myself with my auto. I've pinged shots off of the divider and landed one in my shirt pocket, it burned a little bit but not as much as the one that landed on my forehead and put itself between my eyeglasses and my eyebrow. ;)

Don't get that with the revolver, unless you do some funny things to get it that way.
