"Why do you need a gun?" -- ANSWERED.

I like this! Where can we get more of these words of wisdom? The following was taken from Rosie O'Donnell's web site ...
quote:

Every 13 seconds an American gunowner uses a firearm in defense against a criminal.

In 83.5% of these successful gun defenses, the attacker either threatened or used force first -- disproving the myth that having a gun available for defense wouldnt make any difference.

In 73.4% of these gun-defense incidents, the attacker was a stranger to the intended victim. (Defenses against a family member or intimate were rare -- well under 10%.) This disproves the that a gun kept for defense will most likely be against a family member or someone you love.

Criminal Attacks Stopped By Guns This Year: 866240 (Gun defenses since January 1, 2000. Date and Time Now: 05/10/2000 09:05:31)

Pro-gun does not equal pro-violence.

Many law abiding people enjoy the sport of target shooting or hunting. Also law-abiding people need them for self-defense.

If you want to stop the violence, enforce the existing laws.

The Sheriff's deputy that was killed in Atlanta a while back could have been prevented. The murderer had been arrested on federal gun crimes and the federal government would not prosecute him so they had to set him free. That happened about two weeks before he committed the murder. That just shows how much the federal government wants go get rid of violence.

Laws only stop law abiding people from defending themselves, criminals for some reason don't bother following the laws.
[/quote]

Here's another Pearl (of a different sort) that someone posted further down in that thread.

"People, people! You are all trying to do the right thing, BUT IN THE WRONG WAY. If you want to interest Rozie in the US Constitution, you can't just spout off a bunch of facts and logic. Like any good sales pitch, you have to attune it to your audience. Rozie would be no more receptive to reason than to a man.

Here, I'll show you: Rozie, Rozie, the Bill of Rights is calling you. It's like a CHOCOLATE MOUSE (!!!), riiiiich and creeeeeeamy and you waaaaaaant it, you neeeeeeeeed it. come get it, all you have to do is rip the fridge door off its #$%^&* hinges and why is my @#$%^ agent locking that thing anyway? the 2nd amendment is like a BEEF HOGIE WRAPPED WITH BACON and smothered in BUTTER and topped off with a FRIED EGG!!! OOOOOOOH! (Do you need some paper towels, Rozie?)

Now that should GUARANTEE that her flatulence WILL check it out, or at least browse it. By the way, I am trying to get together some other Rozie fans to try to help close the
"bake-sale loophole" in order to protect our beloved HO-stess! "

FUD -

Its a trap!!!!

Don't fall into it. We don't have to rationalize the RKBA and when we do, we open a can of worms. That's how the whole "what does anyone need with an assault rifle" nonsense gets started.

The answer is that its not a "needs" based right. What do we "need" 60+ million web pages for? What do we "need" 5 or so 24 hour news channels for?

Get the point?

Yes, Jack's right, the stats are worst of all.

That's all it takes, they suck you into a unilitarian argument.

Here this and hear it well. You take any INDIVIDUAL right that the collective cannot tramp on, it is INHERENTLY NOT FOR THE COLLECTIVE GOOD.

You sink to their level (arguing gun ownership/any un-govt.-fettered right) is for the collective good you are GUARANTEED to lose.

Individual rights are not good for all. Individual rights are good for individuals.

Your right to life (and the tools to defend it) have nothing to do with the x% crime rate, etc. Likewise, that depriving ALL of gun would end gun crime is not a reason of depriving you of the tool to defend life, even if it may be "for the collective good".

Actually, worse than the stats are the "the criminals will keep their guns/get guns anyway" statements. DANG, just by saying this you are saying "taking away all my guns is not wrong in itself; but it's only wrong because it won't work".

Battler.

Hey bullw, that's me the "fatsocialisthostess". Thanks for the complement. You guys tipped me off to the rozie forum and i been venting my smart-ass spleen ever since. Here's my latest:

In the name of fairness, I'm hoping some of Rozie's fans can clear up some rumors I heard that may have affected my view of her:

1. She met Hillary doing disaster relief in flood-ravaged Holland, where they both had their finger stuck in the same dike...

2. Rosey, in an effort to bear an offspring, ran adds worldwide and failing to come up with a volunteer who would sign the safety waiver to "do the honors", resorted to the "turkey baster" method. Rumor is that conventional turkey basters disappeared without effect, and the fertility doctor was quoted as saying, "It was like throwing a pickle down a hallway". Turns out Seaworld, which thankfully is one of her many causes, kicked in THEIR Orca baster...

3. Rosey is actually a cheap comeback attempt by John Candy, who was just taking a sebaticle...

4. Rozie got her start in show biz as a model for Chung King, and has been romantically linked to the Micheline Tire Man...

5. Rozie's fear of guns stems from an incident where a farmer shot her with rocksalt thinking that she had come to root up his crop of truffles...

I hope some of her loyal fans can disabuse me of my notions about her. The fact that she wants to use my rights to clean her altogether too large backside, I agree, is no reason to dislike her. Now even you diehard fans of hers HAVE to admit you're not trying to be anywhere NEAR her nylons! Oh, and she DID say I, my family and all other gun owners should be sent to prison. Other than that, she sounds reasonable. The kicker is that while she is obviously in no danger of being sexually assaulted, MOST women are. I wonder how rendering them defenseless qualifies as a feminist issue

Over here in Japan I tell folks that we don't like coup d'etats, that armed citizens outnumber the US military zillions to one, and that if Japanese people had had guns back in the thirties their Army wouldn't have shot up their government, conquered their country, tried to conquer the world, and killed nearly 20,000,000 in the process.

FWIW, the best response I've been able to come up with is: "Why do _you_ NEED me to _not_ have it?" Remember, we're maintaining the status quo. The burden of proof is on the person/wacko with the positive assertion.

Make them PROVE you're dangerous. Considering how many of us are such upstanding citizens it's nauseating, this is truly a fool's errand. There's a joke there, somewhere.

Anyway, after they're forced to conclude there is _NO_ valid reason you shouldn't have one, they'll go back to their generalities that apply to "other people" because Cooper is right: They're hoplophobes with an irrational fear of a lump of metal.

Who knows why they fear Glocks. :P

Simon,

You kill me. I may have to look into developing my own alter ego.

FUD,

Remember _you_ are the person going in for a government approved background check every so often. You are the one that pays the government a fee to excersize a constitutional right. You shouldent try to prove you need a gun any more than they should have to prove the need to watch Roshole.

I like the individual rights argument.

Owning a gun is an individual right. The right to privacy and to come and go as you please are also individual rights. The pro-criminal movement wants to remove my individual right to own a firearm because other people kill with them.

Since a VAST majority of violent crime is perpetrated by men, should we should round them all up and put them in prison? That should eliminate most violent crime in one fell swoop.

Simon, that was the best post I've read in weeks.

Is it just me or does she look like Jabba the Hutt's little sister?

Beauty may only be skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone. Her spirit smears teh horizon like a cross between a rancid buffalo fart and a burning tire.

Lord, soften my heart, I hate that woman.

AAGGHHH!! My eyes! My eyes!

Don't post something like that without a hell of a lot of warning! Better yet, don't post that period! If I want to see an animated tub of lard, I'll watch sumo wrestling. At least that's entertaining.

You guys are frickin hilarious. I wish you would join me on the Rozie thread to share the wealth of your humor...Here's my latest broud-side:

I want to commend Rozie for her principled stand on this issue. I understand she hosted the fundraising dinner for the "million" mom march, and it was a great success. All the liberal elites agreed that those of us who can't afford to HIRE a gun like they do shouldn't be able to own one ourselves! The only real stir came from the menu. Turns out the matre de saw rozie and brought all the guests a bucket of corn cobs to eat. Sue-eeee, that was not PC! Hey, as long as her flatulence is saving us from ourselves, think she could cut down on the methane emissions? Those CFC's she's releasing are proven to cause a version of El Ninyo, associated with Rozie herself called "El Pauncho". Scientists have christened it "El hauncho pauncho" after the disagreeably large source. Finally, some of you have posed hypothetical scenarios. Therefore, I also need to address one more issue to the socially conscious of you. Say you're a chicken minding its own business, and Rozie eats your whole family in one sitting. How would YOU like it?:clown:
