Why Do Some M&P9s Have A False Reset?

I've shot roughly 6-7 M&P9s and 9Cs. With manual safeties and without. It seems like about half of the M&Ps I've shot (all without manual safeties) have a really annoying false reset where it feels and sounds like the trigger has reset; but you need to let it out another fraction of an inch.

I'm not sure why this is only on some pistols or whether there is an easier way to identify which pistols might have this problem short of shooting that specific M&P. Any thoughts?

I have noticed this on my M&P9. When I'm out shooting I don't notice it at all but I'm not much of a trigger reset kinda guy. I was playing with snap caps though one day and noticed the false reset. It's annoying but manageable. I'm honestly not sure what causes it. I almost wonder if it's the angle of the plunger or the trigger bar that has something to do with it. I'm no smith though. I installed an Apex kit in my shield and the issue disappeared entirely.

Like Linegrind sez, things like this are more noticeable if that's what's being focused on.
They're far less noticeable or annoying when concentrating on the shooting, and not the gun or trigger.
Unless a gun is custom made there's always something less than perfect about them.
We either live with it or go to extremes to correct it.

It definitely happens during live fire as well as dry fire; but it doesn't happen on every M&P I've shot. Which makes me wonder what causes it and how you can tell which pistols have it.

Dry fire the pistol in the store.

I've owned at least half a dozen M&Ps and never really noticed it. The early one I owned had almost no reset. But the rest I mostly put APEX parts in which as you say seems to fix the issue. The last 9c I owned I ran stock for a while and it didn't have the issue. I honestly think the only guarantee would be testing firsthand.

All the full size m&p's Ive owned have never really had a detectable reset. I had a CORE 5'' with an apex comp kit and it was awesome. Ive had 2 shields and I really think they have great triggers from the factory. I detest factory glock triggers but they do have an amazing reset, almost as good as my sigs.
