I was wondering why the thread on the sex ed scandle was closed as I found it rather inlightening. I think that even though there are gay TFLers, they may not agree with graffic discussion of sex like that with students. I find it rather insulting to think that these people are seen to reprensent all gay people.

Gitarmac - I agree.
Its a topic well worth discussion.
However it is also a topic for the Range House as it is considered OT, or Off Topic. Meaning its not about Gun, or Gun Rights.

Thats why I closed it pending staff discussion. If we decide to we may reopen it. Or let it remain closed. Whatever the case may be.

This matter is not up to a vote... so dont try to plead a case guys. We are looking at all sides of the story already.
We will make the call soon.

Besides The Range House has been really quiet this weekend. This would probably stir things up a bit. :)

I'm not certain if I would want that on the Range House. Even I have standards. I know it's not the discussion, it's the concept being discussed. Yech.

I acknowledge your right to close or whatever your desire to do with this thread. However, it is a serious situation that should be called to the attention of all, and especially parents. I would disagree with you if the reason for closing it is not to offend homosexuals who are TFL members. Anyone who would be offended by showing the facts of what is happening isn't an ally of mine in any form or fashion! If I have to accept that to keep my RKBA I'll give RKBA up to fight for what is right and good for our children and nation. Jerry

Hey Jerry,

I don't think anyone disagrees with you, I certainly don't.

However, as George pointed out, The Firing Line is a site for discussing firearms related issues.

This is the entire reason why I set up The Range House, so people from The Firing Line can, if they want to, discuss non-firearms-related topics with fellow TFL members.

So please, feel free to take this particular topic over to my board, The Range House, at http://disc.server.com/Indices/129537.html

See, Jerry, this is exactly what we are trying to avoid. Inflammatory topics like this cause well-meaning, (usually) clear-thinking people to draw lines in the sand and dare the rest of us to cross them. And cross them we will. I have to take the bait and say, no, I guess I'm not an ally of yours. This isn't a matter of facts and data. Those were distorted and slanted for the purposes of the "Christian" reporters who went undercover to write the article. Just as you would give up your RKBA to keep homosexuality away from your children would some of us fight to keep Christian zealotry away from ours. And see, now we're squabbling, and THAT is why they close threads like this.

I dont think it was so much the topic that would cause people to get angry, but some peoples responses to it. Some people really hate gays, and wouldn't be afraid to say it on TFL. That would cause conflict, and that isn't OK (unless it's gun related.)
I personally don't like the whole gay media, reform, or whatever. I understand though that it is a way of life for many people, and Just as it is my right to own guns, it is there right to be gay. I don't think it should be taught or incouraged in school, ecspecially to young kids. But that's just me. There are as many opinions as there are colors of the rainbow (pardon the pun :D) That's why the thread was closed, and likely this one will be too.

IF you're not willing to die for your rights/beliefs, don't try to take mine.

Okay - I see we can close this as well.

Duck Hunt - with all respect...
Your coming close to hypocracy. Your tossing about broad generalities regarding Christians as much as you feel it is wrong for Christians to do the same about others.
Regardless of the faith... Just because you have a belief - even a strong one - doesnt mean your a Zealot.
Also - you espouse the broad acceptance of diversity... yet you have very little acceptance of christians. Thats fine. But lets not try to be inflamitory about it.

Closing this thread.
