Why choose Glock 19 over 26?

I know the 19 is one of the most popular guns on earth. I see the reasons. It's a duty-sized gun but with a slightly smaller grip that conceals more easily than a longer magazine.

But the 26 only gives up a little bit of barrel length to the 19, yet can be up to an inch shorter in grip length for much better concealment. From there, you can add capacity in increments, up to or beyond the 19's magazines.

If concealment is an intended use, why choose a fixed G19 over a more flexible G26 that basically is a G19 when you put the longer magazine in it?

Just curious.

I chose the G19 over the G26. I wanted a gun that could reasonably multi-task as HD, range fun, and CCW. I like having a full-sized grip. I don't like those models where magazine extensions become part of the grip. They wiggles and I don't likes 'em. I like carrying the largest gun I reasonably can, and my wardrobe lets me conceal a G19 pretty easily.

Better sight radius, an accessory rail, 15 round flush fitting magazines, more grip to grab onto, a little more velocity, and the 19 isnt really that much bigger. I had a 23 and 27, and ended up keeping the 23. It just handled and shot better for me and carrying it was the same as the 27.

The first thing MOST do with a G26 is seek higher capacity magazines.

Let that sink in a bit.

About the only thing the G26 does that the G19 does not do is slow your draw and not shoot as well, overall.

If you really need DEEP concealment consider the G43 - a pistol I personally do not like but keep it within the proper framework it works wonderfully. That issue is MY issue - I just wish it had a longer grip.

Of course, that's just MY opinion.

I didn't seek, or need, higher capacity - but I DID need to add the Pearce XL finger extension to get a full three finger grip. Compared to a 19, it is similar in comparing the grips of 2 1911s where one had the "bobtail" configuration and one does not. Whether that makes a difference for the your concealment is something only you can answer.

I got the 19 first since since I thought it a better overall package. Then I bought a second.

After a couple years I bought a 26 and was amazed how much difference that inch makes when concealing. It also somehow fits my hand better than the 19. The glock hump hits the concave portion of my palm which feels better.

The 19 is easier for me to unholster under stress and more fun at the range.

Once you add the Pierce Grip You realize the size of the pistol is essentially that of a Glock 19...

Since I have no trouble concealing a G17 sized pistol, I'd take a full sized grip over a sawed off one. If I needed more capacity, one of those 33rd mags carried AIWB means all the girls will be happy to see me.

I disagree. With the extensions the difference at the rear of the grip, which is typically what prints, is pretty noticeable for me personally.

The rear can print but HOW are you carrying? WHAT GEAR are you using? What kind of clothes are you wearing?

All of this matters.

I see too many guys wearing metrosexual fashionable clothing trying to carry pistols and it's a no go.

I'm pretty far away from being fashionable. I can carry a Glock 19. I did it yesterday for 12 hrs. My point is I still notice the difference between the two, even with the factory extensions on my G26.

The G19 is just the better all around size for me. I gave my G17 to my son when he moved out so he'd have a HD gun. I had nothing against the G17, but didn't shoot it a bit better than my G19 which is noticeably smaller and easier to conceal. I also have a G26 and had a G43. I sold the G43 because I didn't shoot it well and could carry the G26 almost as easily.

In my hands the G19 is more accurate than my G26, and the G26 is just enough easier to carry for me to justify having both. I carry both with the factory supplied 15 or 10 round magazines, but for spares I only use 17 round G17 mags for either.

If I had one handgun that was multi-purpose it would be a G19 hands down.

My HD gun is a G17 for full size and capacity.

My CCW is a G26 for it's size.

I do want a G19 to put an RMR on and play with.

Does anyone here carry the 19 AIWB? That's how I carry (about 1:30 position). I carry an XD subcompact 3" barrel. Adding a whole other inch to the gun length would seem to dig unbearably into my leg. But I've never tried.

That's why I thought a G26 with G19 mags would be a potentially better solution?

Well, I do have both, a G-19 and G-26. I've been carrying the G-26 for off-duty purposes for several years now. And, even though it does have the finger grip extension, I still find it better suited to carrying concealed compared to the G-19.

I can carry the G-19 concealed without any issues. Sometimes, I've even carried my on-duty Sig P220 concealed. The G-26 just feels a little easier and better suited for me.

I've done it but not long term. I find appendix actually lets me carry a pistol with a longer grip, as you probably know. As for the barrel it can be done, though I've done it compared to a 26 to see how much "worse" it is with a 19. I will say the holster for me makes an even bigger difference when carrying appendix than say strong side. Some seem to be sculpted better to not dig into your leg.

The 19 has a longer Sight radius. It has a higher capacity. I prefer the MOS capability with an RMR.

With my setup I can shoot one handed out to 50 yards, either hand.

What's your point about seeking a longer magazine? Yeah, I like having the option of either using the short mags, which makes the Glock 26/27 easiest to conceal, but I also like having a larger magazine that holds more rounds and makes the grip longer to put my poor, forgotten pinky on something.

Buying a Glock 19 means the bottom of the grip stick out further and the slide is longer, which gives better sight radius, but I don't need that, not for the distances that I may have to shoot at.

Even then, at a longer distance, the 26/27 do just fine.
