Why are Beretta 92 G's so hard to find?

...I've looked at all the local shops, but only found a few on-line that were in bad shape. Any ideas on where to look? Thanks!

Are you talking about the older 92F(G) "decocker only" model? If so, I don't think they sold well and I'm not sure they even offer them anymore. Personally, it's my favorite (the 92G "Centurion" particularly).

They are quite easy to find as the Beretta 92G Elite and Elite II. I believe these are the only "G" (decocker only) models that Beretta currently offers. Most you find used are police trade in guns. Beretta sold very few "G" models on the retail market, I'm not sure of the reason. I have one of the 92G Elites and I quite pleased with it.

I got a G from Swanson thru gunlist. And I bought thru ebay a G slide to go on an F for a reasonable price.

For malf drills, loading, etc the Gs are especially desireable since they can't be inadvertently decocked.

Last year the Indiana State Patrol traded in its G models, but a knowledgeable person told me to avoid them that they were quite worn after 10 years of service.

the only G model berettas sold to civilians are the Elite and Elite 2. there are some 92G's and other G model berettas out there but very few of them can be found NIB and most will be old LE trade-ins.

i like my 92G Elite a lot and prefer the G model over the FS.

If memory serves corectly, I believe the 92 "Gendarmie" was never a catalogued item. Or was it that it was catalogued but available only on a limited basis? Something along those lines. I've seen a couple of "G" slides for sale in the GunList. Now what I'd really like to see is a 92 with a frame mounted safety like the originals had. I know they've made one for competition like that, but it's got this big oversized safety, adjustable sightsd and whatnot. A model 92FS with thumb safety the size of the one on the original 92 would be sweet!

Parra is correct

The original G was never meant for the public the only way the public got them was second hand never new. The new G-elites (I$II) are both traditional G's the only difference is that the slide is the larger Brigadier slide and the Elite (II) slide is stainless.

I just checked their parts list the do still sell the G-slide it's part #c88651 $288 but it has the big ole (L.E. only) by it but you never know until you call and ask.

I have a 92G and a 96G. Both were issued by the department. Kieslers.com lists Indiana State Police trade ins for the 92G. We replaced them in 1998 so i dont know if they have anymore.

Parabellum:

Such a Beretta (one with a "normal" sized frame-mounted safety) does exist.

It is called "Stock." Unfortunately, it is only made in Italy and costs about $1,000 or so to purchase in the US.

The competition model is called "Combat," which has a single-action trigger, a frame-mounted safety and a some other competition features. It is even more expensive than the "Stock."

Otherwise, there is always the Taurus clone, which does have a frame-mounted safety/decocker so that one can carry in "condition one." I believe this is the reason why some folks own a Taurus over a genuine Beretta 92FS.

Hey, thanks for the info, Skorz! I'll have to see what I can find out on the "Stock". Never cared for the Taurus, though.
