Why are 410 slugs so light?

I’ve never posted in the shotgun section before but stumbled across this puzzler, at least it puzzles me.

Why do they load 410 slugs with a projectile that weighs a mere 0.2 ounces? I see they give it more velocity (1875 FPS) but if they had duplicated the heavy 3 inch shot load of .7 ounce (300 grains) at 1135 FPS then it would be as useful as a 44 mag. Could they have intended it to be used for something much different than the bigger slugs?

Just wondering because it would seem to have potential as a good deer load in the shotgun only areas.

hmm.

guess they wanted less of a rainbow effect-it might be too light and traveling too slow-i dont think their made to even take a deer resonably?-a .410 bore.. in my opinion is very underated for deer-i would go with something bigger-28-20-16-12-10 (  )
