O'Heir's comment about Cooper's more stupid ideas
Mr. O'Heir:
I rarely comment on forums, but I felt compelled to do so in this instance.
For those who actually knew Lt. Col. Cooper, he would never deem it necessary to defend himself on some forum where someone spends inordinate amounts of time of his life, rather than actually working, teaching, fighting world wars, shooting, and raising a fine family. His legacy withstands your internet postings.
Nevertheless, you have strong opinions about Lt. Col. Cooper's idealization of the scout rifle as one of Lt. Col. Cooper's "more stupid ideas", so obviously you presuppose other stupid or foolish comments, as opposed to all of your "3000" sage, wise, and brilliant comments on posts (on this forum alone!) (please forgive me for not having struggled through each one).
To accuse Lt. Col. Cooper of being stupid and/or having stupid ideas is either ignorant, spurious, or asinine. Since I don't know you personally with our semi- anonymous internet, I will assume you are ignorant (and would not have the fortitude to call Lt. Col. Cooper stupid to his face). The word stupid and ignorant are different, so get your dictionary, look em up, and then we can proceed.
Using your logic, everyone not building a scout rifle is ""smart", since it was not adopted by any of the worlds's armies. Continuing with your premise, the rest of the world that does not build M-16's, AK's, or Beretta 92's must be on the same side of the stupid line as Lt. Col. Cooper. Alongside him are all those dummy Ivy League MBA's who help run gun companies (and remember, Cooper was a dumb ivy leauger from Stanford, those nimwits) so they can just run those companies into the ground.
Then, upon your return, I eagerly await you to post for the edification of the rest of us the ISBN of all the books you have written and published regarding any of your war stories, gun techiques developed, schools started, guns designed, and being one of the the stalwarts of a development of the modern technique of the pistol which has been virtually adopted in one form or another by basically every modern army, police, and other law enforcement in the world, and is taught by the myriad of gun schools thoughout the country (with slight modifications) (except for maybe Canada, where you can't have pistols or revolvers. Dangit!). As of now, I don't recall seeing or reading any of your books or seeing your technique taught. Not to worry, I don't have any of mine either; I have to get by on what I've been taught these last 36 years or so of that thing called practical shooting.
Now, to more important matters, maybe Ruger put a flash suppressor on the rife so when one shoots early in the morning, or early at night, one does not have a huge fireball to constrict one's pupils so you will be better prepared for that possible second shot. Or, Ruger's marketing group thought it would help the rifle sell better, so they could make more american dollars. Or, Ruger put it there so someone would be less able to determine where the shot came from. Look at all those military rifles with evil flash suppressors. Someone must know what they are doing, but we will wait for you to weigh in so we can all be enlightened.
Yours truly,
A South Texan
