In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Thank you for your cooperation and your participation in TFL, the leading online forum for firearms enthusiasts.

Who's your favorite thread-closer?

There've been quite a few threads closed lately, for a variety of reasons, and by a number of different moderators, each with his own style.

Who's your favorite thread-closer among the moderators and why?

(Waiting to see how long this thread takes to get locked down...)

It should get locked down quickly because it has nothing to do with firearms, but maybe we should start a pool since you seem to be baiting a "thread-closer." :D

Mal H.

Because he does it with such grace and style, while sitting at his large desk in his enormous office in his palatial home on his million acre estate in Virginia, while sipping mint juleps and gnoshing on grits brought to him by his small army of servants.

The true country gentleman. :)

Oh yeah, the other reasons why he's my favorite thread closer. He's the only moderator I've actually met, and he lets me cook hotdogs and watch TV on his chronograph... :D

Much as I appreciate Lendringser's civility... I gotta say LawDog.

That feller's so sweet closing up shop I'll bet he even gets a "thank you" from the folks he takes in to the pokey. :)

Can I vote too?

Split decision for me.

LawDog - George Hill

Ian is the epitome of the diplomat. He can tell someone to go to hell in such a manner that they actually look forward to the trip. That and what Kaylee said.

George is a wookie. He's known to rip people's arms off when he closes threads. He can tell someone to go to hell in such a manner that they wish they *were* in hell rather than in the presence of the angry Kodiac.

P.S. Thread Closed...

.

Made you look! ;)

Can't remember which, but it was a doozy...

My favorite incident was a doozy, though the moderator shall remain anonymous.

First he misunderstood a parody thread of mine and closed it for
"being offensive". When I explained it to him by email, he pretended he had understood it but said it should stay closed because the REST of the forum members might be too stupid to understand it and get offended. That was definitely my "favorite" run-in. Oh, and I also liked the mandatory "there's no free speech on private property" and "if you don't like the job I'm doing why don't you do it" rebuttals. Don't call it unimaginative and predictable, think of it as "consistant".

Overall though, I think the moderator-intensive nature of this thread makes it a better place to post. (Did I mention that I like shooting and guns? I DID mention shooting and guns!!!)

Gotta say, for me, it's a tie between Lendringser and Lawdog: Lendringser because he closes a thread with such tact and diplomacy, and Lawdog because I like his attitude - civil, but blunt and to the point. :D

I think all the moderators here have their own style. But for thread-closers, LawDog's is unique. It harkens me back to the one time I was arrested. The officer was polite, stern, but left no doubt that my Family Jewels were part of the equation.

Must be that Texas twang.

DC would lock your thread, put LawDog on your butt, Vinnie and Guido to your 10-20 and Rich to fly over said location to confirm that your area was no longer a threat. :D
