Who's Gopher Hunting?

I've been out three trips so far since the weather finally broke. Mostly shooting My Rem 700 SS .223 fluted varmint. Shooting a little .22lr also but most of the squirrels are very spooky for some reason and shots are long.(150-350 yards). My son went with me yesterday after work and brought his 22-250. Great fun even though it got windy. We just moved so we were shooting downwind. Mostly prone shots at about 200.

Good to be out:D

Our "pocket" gophers are a tuff bunch to hunt.... Bout the only time you can hit one is when it is working on a tunnel system and you see the dirt fly... than you set up a few/10 yards away and wait to time the peek-a-boo and whack them with a shot gun...

I think he is referring to marmots/woodchucks or possibly praire dogs, not pockets gophers.

You are right, however, in that pocket gophers would be a rarity to shoot.

These ones are Richardsons Ground Squirrels. About half the size of a prairie dog but they look the same. I don't think Montana has any "gophers" proper except maybe east around Sydney.

I have the exact same model of Remington rifle, and it is by far my most favorite rifle to shoot or hunt with:
