Whoa!! P220 blew me away.

Thanks, folks. I mean that. I picked up the P220 this morning and took it straight to the range, and it was everything you said and more. The sights are nearly instinctive, it feels like it was tailored to my hand, the controls are utterly simple, and it was perfectly reliable through 50 rds of Win. Silvertip 185 gr. and 50 of Sellier & Bellot 230 FMJ--no misfeeds, no failure to fire, nothing. I also achieved several groups under 3 inches and one under 2, my first time out with the gun and second with .45 acp. The trigger on this gun is unbelievable, at least for me--I love it. And not only does it group, but it shoots directly to point of aim (once I figured out the bar-dot sights and stopped aiming low.)

This pistol and I are going to be very, very happy together, and it's going to a pistol class with me in 2 weeks. Thanks again!

We told you so. I've gotten the same performance out of all of my Sigs, thus nothing else will do for me. Have fun.

Sig's P-220 is one of the VERY BEST semiautomatics. As mentioned last week, I really love mine.

Regards.

Hope you continue to enjoy your P220. I know I definitely enjoy mine. If I had to keep just one pistol (perish the thought!) it would have to be my 220. It's that good, and it makes nice big holes! :)

Greetings Again, Glad you love the Sig P220.
Now, everyone can see for themselves why I rave about this firearm; it's truly out of this world!!! :D As I told all member's, I've
had mine since March of 95, and it's utterly
the best firearm I have ever owned. :) I'm
sure you will enjoy yours equally as well.

Best Wishes,

Somehow I am not surprised. The SIG-Sauer P220 is one of the best automatic pistols made. I think you will continue to love it!

The SIG P220 is the best double-action .45 pistol on the market, IMHO. It has always been one of my favorites. Congratulations on a fine choice, I am sure it will serve you well.

I love my 220. It goes bang every time, and shoots where I point it. It came with all kinds of goodies, to boot.

This is one I just may have to name. Perhaps Brunhilde............

It's phenomenal, at least to me. I checked the proof mark (learned how at Sigforum) and mine was manufactured in 1989. Must have been shot little in that time, 'cause it certainly groups tight. But I'm thinking of getting the newer "green" recoil spring; somebody said slides older than 1995 sometimes develop tiny hairline cracks and the heavier spring helps with that. I plan on shooting this one a lot.
Going back to the range after work today, this time with Missy along. Should be a good time.

Spoiled some non shooters with a Sig 220. I tell them to start with a 9mm but the Sig just performed admirably for them. The green recoil spring was added for protection against prolonged use of +p ammo.

Don,

Check my reply post to you at the Sig Forum about rosewood grips.

I have always loved custom 1911s, and used them for home protection. Then I bought my first Sig P220. Installed a Harrt recoil guide rod, Trijicon sites and had a trigger job done. It is light weight, accurate (almost as accurate as my best target 1911) points very naturally, fits my hand, has the "saftey" of double for first shot, (and I am as accurate with double as single usually) and is far more reliable than any 1911 I have ever owned. Sorry 1911 fans, that is just the way it is. I have never had a jam even with truncated cone ammo, and I shoot IPSC for many years now. Now I don't plan on selling any of my 1911s, but after much thought and testing, I put away the custom 1911 and now have the Sig P220 as my home defense handgun loaded with Federal HS ammo. (Main gun though is a mil spec pump shotgun.)

In addition, my youngest son has tried lots of guns over the past 8 years. He shoots IPSC also. He decided to get the ONE handgun he will ever need (hahaha) and that was a Sig P220.

Woo those SIGs are nice!! I just shoot a loaner for my CCW class and I loved it! Very accurate, and easy to shoot well in single action at least. I did hit the decocker a couple of times trying to release the slide. Unusual placement there. Sweet gun though. I do think it's a little big for concealed carry.

Welcome to the family Don. You'll get many years, lots of fun and some good protection.

Enjoy

Y'know, maybe it's just that I'm starting out with the Sig so I don't notice that it's different from the "normal" layout, but I like the way the controls are set up. I figure you're more likely to need the release than the decocker quickly and without shifting grip anyway--if you're actually in combat and the slide locks, you MUST release it before you can fire, but you don't ever HAVE to de-cock in a situation where you don't have time to shift your grip (I do have to shift, only a tiny bit but it's necessary; I have short and stubby thumbs, tragically enough.)

BTW, Melissa does NOT like the Sig. .22 good, 9mm fun, .45 BAD. Knowing what I know now I'm going to try to talk her into a Sig 225, since she hates revolvers so much. I think the P220 grip is just barely too big for her hand, too; she thought it was OK in the store, but she kept complaining that it was "slipping" yesterday, and I think it was because she couldn't quite get a perfect grip.

Hey Don, Be glad Melissa doen't like the P220. A lot of female LEO's here in BamaLand
have traded in their P229's; in favor of the
P220. :D Those P220's sure are habit forming. :)
