Who would like to see a fully customized CZ-75?

I want to know what TFLers would like to see a smith do some custom CZ-75s. The mods would include:
-converting the safety so that you can open the slide with the safety on
-a trigger job
-Bar-Sto barrel
-custom grip screws
-custom grips
-a new trigger for the ones with a grooved trigger
-extended mag release for the ones that didn't come with it
-New and exciting finishes
-And any other stuff people can dream up

Who would have an interest in a custom CZ like this? I think it would give the custom Hi Power/1911 market a new option.

:barf:
It's been done before, with the Springfield P9 (Tanfoglio clone of CZ), and didn't prove very popular...

It sounds wierd, but the gun is actually an outstanding platform. Really all it needs is a Bar-Sto barrel, trigger job and maybe higher-visibility sights to be a giant killer. :D

I'd like to be able to engage the safety with the hammer down. (I'm sure someone will point out that this is blasphemy, violates the very concept of a double-action auto, and would probably make the hens stop laying, but hey, I'm here to learn...;)

As far as the trigger goes, mine's better than any other trigger I have except (maybe) my M700, so I guess I can pass on that.

What advantage would there be in a Bar-Sto barrel? More accuracy?

I have the "Mil" finish on my 75b. It looks like I can't damage it, so I'm happy.

OK, I would like some Trijicon sights or something similar.

An extended magazine release should a simple drop-in piece that I would appreciate.

A trigger job is (almost) always a good thing.

I too would like the option of putting the safety on with the hammer down.

How about a safer way to decock?

I have a CZ-75 that will get customized when I slow down with my new gun purchasing enough to spend the money on it.

Things I will do:

New sights (preferably Novak).

Bar-Sto Barrel.

Thin wood grips.

Trigger job.

Hard Chrome.

Maybe checkering front/backstrap.

As far as the safety setup, I like it just the way it is.

9x19 and bmwguy- I'm only talking about the Ceska Zbrojovka made 75's. This is just because I hear mixed reports on the others.

I totally agree with CastleBravo. This would make a phenomenal platform for a custom 9mm. I guess I don't really care if it can decock because if I had a "B" I'd just carry it cocked and locked. But if you guys want it, there should be someone to do it dangit! Our very own Christopher II modified his CZ so that he could open the slide with the safety on, so he can do a press check without having to disengage the safety. Pretty cool! I wouldn't mind doing some work on my PCR. The first thing I think I'm going to do is have it converted to a manual safety model instead of a "D".

Ditto CastleBravo.

A TZ-75 is based on the CZ-75, but is not the same thing. Jeff Cooper also does not give his praises lightly.

CZ 75s are great pistols.

One of these days I'll probably get one and have it customized as necessary or as I see fit.

I think the reason more folks haven't tinkered with them is due to the tendency to equate "low cost" with "low quality."

The other reason for a lack of customization is that the CZ-75 is relatively new to this country. Even a year ago, many people did not know about this great gun.
The 1911, HiPower, and revolvers have been around a very long time, and there are generations of work done on these designs. As more people get into their CZ's, customization will follow.

Me , personally, I pretty much like my CZ75B Mil. version as is. The only thing I would change is to add an extended mag release and slide lock.

Hello. In my opinion, the CZ75 is one of the best 9mm service-sized handguns around. My old Pre-B guns shoot plenty good enough with the factory bbl so I didn't change mine, but can sure understand the appeal to do so as it might make a very tight shooting pistol even better.

These have proven reliable and plenty accurate enough for me so I left the bbl on mine alone, other than having it hard chromed.

Bobbed the hammer spur a bit, but that's not even a problem on the new guns with their ball hammers. Had Wickmann add Novak sights and refinish the slide.

I shoot warm to hot loads in mine so it's equipped with a Wolff conventional 18 lb spring and a shock buffer.

In time, I wouldn't be surprised to see these get some more "respect" by the shooting community as they become well known. I don't think it will be to the same degree as the 1911, but what else will?

Best to all.

Agree with the need for extended slide lock and magazine release. Perhaps some work on the single action trigger. Adjustable night sights would be nice too.

Stephen Camp- That CZ is beautiful!!! Wow! What is the slide finished in? Can you give contact info for Wickmann too? Thanks

Dan

A full house custom CZ-75 sounds good to me. How bout something like this. Start with a CZ-75SA frame which has a nice beavertail, reprofile the trigger guard like a CZ-75 non B,checker the front and back straps 30lpi,fit a checkered slightly extended safety (made to function SA or DA like a Witness). Polished face trigger with an adj. overtravel stop, trigger job of course (like and custom pistol). BarSto barrel (just for nice) with a polished outter chamber area (for looks). Machine slide with a small section of foreward slide serrations that match the rear ones and fit it with Novak night sights. Fit it with a PCR lightweight hammer and mag release,Hogue checkered grips in kingwood or somesuch with custom torx grip screws. Melt the whole thing nicely (don`t overdo) and finish it in 2 tone Black T and hard chrome. Oh baby! Marcus

CLONE CUSTOM

Thanks to Bob Cogan at www.apwcogan.com I got me a fine 9x19 Witness with a hard-fit Nowlin barrel, and 'chromed too.
The rest I did myself: adj sights, fancy grips, tweaked trigger (but still 5lb, with too much overtravel), and some other stuff.

Perfect carry gun.

My other 9x19 Witness is pretty stock, or tricked with factory parts including new barrel fit by me.
Pretty good too.

Got a full-blown custom 1911 (Caspian of course) so I have a fair idea of what "customized" means.
Stock CZ (or Witness) is already pretty good.................

I think it sounds pretty damn nice.... My CZ Compact has a polished feed ramp, throated chamber, slide work for smoother action, a 20# Wolff recoil spring and firing pin spring, Hakan grips,
hammer mods, sight mods and Hi Cap mags...I like it. I would love to checker the front and backstrap @ 30 lpi, extend mag release and melt it. I would have the ultimate Compact and very unique also. Shoot well

PS The TZ75 IS NOT a CZ. Thanks....

After I get my SA "Loaded" and get over the new gun bit, I'm going to save up to do just a little bit to my CZ. I have yet to decide how "little" that will be, but there is plenty of time and I want to find a local smith if possible.
I think the major improvement would be a trigger job, mine is ok, but has a bit too much creep. But, when new, it was gritty and had more creep, so maybe the problem will take care of itself.
I really would like it to have a SA pull like my Taurus .357 Tracker's. Very light and crisp.
I already have Hakan's custom birchwood grips (all the way from Norway, $50 !), so the cosmetic is already started. Novak sights might be nice...
;)
and so on...

CZ's tend to be purchased for shooting - they don't have the snob appeal of M1911's, where people dress them up so they won't be shooting the same gun as the three guys next to them. Also, the internal finish of the CZ isn't as nice as more expensive pistols, so the people who want prettified guns don't usually buy them. It's a service pistol. HP's get customized because they need it (yeah, I know, John Browning etc etc).

Replacing the excellent factory barrel doesn't make sense until it's shot out. I had mine recrowned. You can buy an extended mag release for about $25 - it's a factory part on the CZ 85 Combat. You can also get Mec-Gar adjustable sights for the 75. As the gun is currently in production in SA-only and decocker models, paying a smith to make those changes isn't real appealing.

I had an action job, recrowning, and ramp polished on my CZ 85 Combat by Actions By T for about $200. It came with wood grips but I replaced them with Hogue wrap-around rubber. It shoots five shot 2" groups at 25 yards - good enough for me.
