Who OWES the Gov. Money?!?!

Well sure enough, as usual, I owe
the Fed. Gov. a little over 100
bucks. :p

And it seems I owe the State about 13 bucks  :p

Jeez!!!

Good news, Sarge! The goverment(s) made *you* an interest free loan instead of them returning your money (used, dirty, ugly...).
;)

I'm happy to say no. For me It's a pain in the butt to sit in our accountaint's office every year when I could be at the range. But part of the visit includes planning for the next year(s). We had originally planned to recieve about $5 grand for our refund. But I also did a lot of subbing (I teach) the past year and got a larger refund than anticipated.

I'm thrilled to say I get $100 back this year. While that may be peanuts, it's a welcome change over the last two years, where, thanks to errors my employer made in my witholding, I owed $1000 a year. That's an unheard of amount for a single, apartment-dwelling school teacher!

The first time it happened, I was reading a book on women in the middle east at tax time, and, as an Arab-American, I was so happy *not* to be wearing a big black hijab and being someone's third favorite wife, I signed the check "Thank you, USA!" The second time, I was just chuffed. By next year, I hope to be a homeowner, which should help even more. :D

*quack*

I've got to pay the state, but then I always have to pay 'em every quarter.
Somehow I managed to get 17 whole bucks back from the BIG gov this year, but I guess I can add that to the state's money.

Do you hear that giant sucking sound coming from my wallet? That's the sound of the USG taking almost $2K. Long term capital gains tax hit me HARD!

Better to owe than to give the gov't an interest free loan for the year (like me).

I owe the Feds about $200, because I screwed up my 401K deductions.

I'm getting my normal $600+ back from the state, though.

Criminy sakes! After all They took out, I still have to dish out another $450. That won't even buy them half a toilet seat.

That sinks it. I'm getting divorced.

:(
2-Ruger Vaqueros plus 1- Browning Buckmark Camper=my liability.

*sigh* they get my guns even before I do it seems.

Those scums robbed me for $ 2,432.00, about the price to replace the old computer with a new decked out one. But think of what all I get for it instead.....oppression, childrens brainwashing, Bill Clintons salary paid, more gun control, echelon, hate crime legslation, forced mutliculturalism, cnn programs, UN funding, various propaganda, more then likely grants of funding for HCI ect ect ect ................................

Sorry people, you are on one of my pet peaves. I did taxes for quite a few years and it always bugged me. I would have some couple come in with 8 kids who claimed withholding of single with 0 dependents. I would not have much to do with their return, yet because of their withholding they would get a big refund. I was then their hero. On the flip side I would get some jerk in who was single with no dependents who claimed married with 8 exemptions. I would work my butt off to get his taxes down to the maximum legal limit and because he owed money, I was a no good rotten bean counter.

My point is, you should be looking at your total tax bill that you paid, not what you get back or have to pay.

My tax bill for 99... lets just say I paid more in taxes than my wife brings home from her paycheck.

As to getting a $100 refund... This is the ideal tax planning... Good work... You do not want the government using your money during the year as they do not give interest on it. Yet on the flip, you do not want to owe them a large amount as they will charge you interest and penilties.

I owe the fedgov $335.

Better to owe than to give the gov't an interest free loan for the year...

Um, no it's not. My worst year, 1996, was when my accountant had us severely underwithhold. I owed the fedgov ALONE over $10,000. This was AFTER I'd paid them $12,000 during the year.

Took us over TWO YEARS to pay that off. And you can bet that the government's "loan" to you (the payback schedule) is NOT "interest-free".

I could've bought TWO class III firearms for that kind of money, with some left for ammo. (I don't own ANY, but sure want some!)

No, after careful consideration, it's my personal opinion that "tis better to receive than to give". Trust me.

Bookkie...you are so correct. The folks in here are no doubt great people but it breaks my heart to see too many people pay attention to the wrong things.

Doing away with the concept of "withholding" would go a long way in causing people to pay attention to the big picture. Were everyone to pay their federal income taxes (or all elements of taxation for that matter) by writing a check themselves once a month, the issue would become much clearer.

Regards

I owe them exactly $92.00. Fine with me, I hate giving them loans.

I agree we should do away with withholding, make every taxpayer pay their own taxes. Then we would see a change in the attitude of the people. Withholding is just another way for the politicians to oppress us. Just another way to get lazy people to support their thievery.
