I have always loved the look of a side by side with exposed hammers and would like to look for one but dont want one that requires black powder loads. Are there any available that will shoot modern 12ga shotgun shells?

Budget?
CZ makes their Hammer Coach Gun. MSRP is $922.00. Rummage around the assorted CAS forums and sites for more.

Fausti sisters do, but their "Noblesse" starts at about $16K.......;)

That's for a sidelock with hand engraving signed by the artist..............

Even some of the old double barrel guns can be used with smokeless powder loads, however most are chambered for shorter shells then the standard 2-3/4 12 ga shells found today.

There is companies making the shorter 12 ga shells that are safe in some of the old guns.

I had a Rossi Coach gun back in the 80s, traded it off, for something I now no longer remember...

About a decade ago, I got another coach gun, double barrel, double hammers, double trigger, and a tang safety ()... it takes modern ammo, but I'm afraid the only thing I can tell you about the makers is that they were Chinese....

Out of production but you might could find a Bernardelli Brescia hammer gun on the sale sites. I found one that sold for $825, another for $1100+.

Remington made a barge load of hammer doubles with Armory Steel barrels that should handle nitro.

Yes, I also remember a Chinese or Russian sxs with hammers exposed that was marketed for a while. Maybe watch the online auctions?

Another vote for the Rossi. I still have mine. It started out life as a full length hunting gun, but I cut the barrels to 18 1/2.

I have the cimarron 20" coach gun. Made in china. Maker was ttn, i think. They make a 28" or 30" one also.

I would have preferred the cz, but i couldn't justify the extra $300 for a shotgun I will use 1-2 times a year.

Finish inside/out is acceptable, for the price point.

Stiff trigger, and no manual safety.

Rebounding hammer, so just don't cock it until ready to shoot.

The cz adds chromed barrels and the 28" has threaded chokes.

Better all purpose one, I think.
