Who makes a rifle for the .338 Lapua?

I read last month's American Rifleman with their review of the Armalite AR-30, and I see the Sako TRG-S is available.

I go to the Armalite website, and they have a signup sheet for the AR-30, so it does not appear to be available yet.

Anyone else? I really like what I read about the .338 Lapua, I think I want one.

And to think I was already settling on the Savage 10FP in .308 or the 110FP in .300 Win Mag.

I can't make up my mind!!!

Someone's gotta ask, so here goes:

What are you going to use this for? Benchrest? Hunting?

.338 Lupua is a pretty hot round. Probably hotter than you need for hunting.

If you want REALLY hot, you oughta check out the Weatherby .338-.378. I was reading some old gun rags last night and that baby pushes a 250 gr bullet out the barrel at 3100 fps.

I don't really know what its for. The article suggested elk hunting. Maybe there's some REAL tough elk somewhere's that the old '06 won't fall. I'd sure hate to meet those elk in a dark alley though ;)

Total sniper setup.

I only like black guns. Dianne Feinstein doesn't like them, so I do.

I really want to get a Windrunner XM107, but my sweetheart won't let me sell her car to buy one. None of the other .50 BMGs out there do it for me, except the Barrett M82A1, which is banned here. So I am looking down the power scale at long-range rifles.

In reality, it will be a range/bench gun. I don't get too excited about hunting.

My bad, shoulda checked out the AR 30 before I posted.

Looks cool. Might beat you up pretty good though. I'd go with the .308 version myself. Ammo would be cheaper and you'd be able to shoot more. .300 wsm would be cool if they offered it.

The AR 30 would probably be your least expensive rifle in the caliber. My friend who works for a gun shop just put his name on the list and they said they would be out in late Feb or early March. His price for the rifle is about $800 which is great compared to other makers like AI. The rifle won't beat you up either because of the very well made brake. I have another friend that has an AR 50 and he says with the break, which is the same design as the AR 30, he's fired up to 100 rounds of .50 and wasn't black and blue. If you want a .338LM then the AR 30 is probably your best bet and the price will keep your wife happy too which we all know is important. ;)

One other thing though, do you reload? If not, start because loaded 338LM ammo isn't cheap, about $60-80 per box of 20. But if you reload the cost will be less but still steaper than most other calibers. The brass is about $200 per 100 and the bullets are about $22 per 50 not to mention the large amount of powder. I believe it's almost 100 grains per round. Don't let this scare you though. You probably have other toys so this won't be shot every time you hit the range. Speaking to others I've found you get at least 5 loadings from a piece of brass so the cost isn't too bad especially for a large caliber long range rifle. I'd say get your name on the list and while you're waiting get all the other goodies together so when the rifle get's in you are ready to go. That's exactly what my friend Steve is doing. Good luck.
