Am I the ONLY one that actually ENJOYS recoil/blast?

:D

I really like shooting hot loads. I love my little 640 .357 hand cannon/flame-thrower.

Hey now,

I enjoy a good bit of recoil and blast. That is part of what makes shooting so fun. As much as I love my .22's and my CCW guns, I still take one of my 357's with m whenever I go to the range just so I can shoot a box of the fun stuff.

However, I hate the blast when I'm at the range and it's coming from the guy 3 lanes over who insisted on bringing his 454 with him that day. I mean, who in the world needs that big pressure wave coming back in their face while they're trying to do some serious target practice.

Good shooting.

Actually, I've always carried .45+P or .44mag, occaisionally .357mag as CCW guns. I have also found that someone shooting a real cannon nearby actually improves my focus and concentration. If the moment ever comes when you need to use that gun you carry, and hopefully something more than a .22 mousegun, there are going to be ALOT of distractions, including your own adrenaline, and if you train in difficult circumstances, your likelihood of survival will improve!

My first handgun was one of the original Lew Horton edition 3" barreled S&W 629's in .44 MAG. I have a load with 30 grs of Win 296 behind a 180 gr. JHP that I load specifically for the blast. The slow powder I use burns mostly outside the barrel when fired and I get a good 5-7' tube of flame out of the short barrel.

NJW in AZ

Night trap with black powder loads.

Loudest I have heard was standin next to a 5"/38 when a projectile went off in the tube...talk about a KOBOOM!

Sam...do we use green dot for St Paddy's day?

I fired in an INDOOR pistol match one time. Concrete block building, 15 stations. 15 .45
's in the rapid fire stage inside the building WILL test your concentration!

While I love shooting my 6 inch .44 Mag Anaconda, the blast from my Carbon 15 Type 97 pistol beats it.

My other favorite is a .50 Desert Eagle, unfortunately, not mine.

I'm with NJW. I also have a Lew Horton 3" SW 629. Talk about a boomer, and an amazing echo if fired in a remote mountain canyon. Anyone of my friends who has ever fired it has loved it.

Greetings,

I enjoy shooting a few rounds of .357 every time I take my Model 649 (Bodyguard) to the range. Mostly I shoot .38 though. Does anyone else but me find that .357's shoot better in their J-frame or other revolver?

For another kind of audio enjoyment, try firing some supersonic .22 rounds in a canyon or other outdoor place.

BTW, that's a great picture.

Regards,

Ledbetter

Taurus, Raging Bull 454 hot loads. Only time I ever shot a 3 shot string full auto out of a revolver........Don't ask. We're still trying to figure that one out.

I'm not bragging, just surprised at how *little* recoil it had for such a big caliber. The 8" barrel might have had something to do w/it too.

I like recoil, though my .454 SRH kicks into my right middle finger a little too hard. It adds to the challenge and forces you to focus. And even if it does hurt, a little pain is a fair trade-off for all that power.

I wish I could say I took that pic, but I didn't. I found it somewhere on the Net.

BTW, I really LOVE shooting my buddy's Ruger Single Six 22lr/22 Magnum. I LOVE that little gun with 22 Magnums. It has almost NO recoil but it does have a great blast of flame that shoots out.

:)

I like shooting comfortable guns. To me .45 ACP is very comfortable, but I won't go anymore powerful than that. 10 mm frankly recoils too much, as does the magnum revolver calibers. The one exception is once in a blue moon I will shoot my .357 magnum revolver with full power magnum loads--but 90 percent of the time I use .38 specials.

I love shooting the hot .44 mag loads and watching the weeds lay down from the blast when I pull the trigger on the ol 300 Mag. More power to you...........

The first handgun I fired was my great grandads SAA .45 Colt black powder, when I was eight years old. Since then, if it doesn't have some muzzle flash, something viseral is definitely missing! Most entertaining "handgun" I have fired was an 870 w/ a pistol grip and a 12" barrel. After three rounds, you just could not refrain from checking to make sure that your left hand had not been burned off from the fireball. Sorry Mr. Eastwood, but I believe that 870 far outclasses the "little" .44 Mag!

10" Wichita Silhouette pistol, chambered in 7mm Rimmed International (.30-30 necked down to 7mm) 35.0 grains of WW748 behind a 139gr Hornady spirepoint zips it along near 2000 fps. The flash and concussion are fun to experience on overcast or darkish days. Shooting it without a PAST glove is not fun to experience, though. In it's defense, the 200 meter rams go down pretty darned quickly!

That's why I bought a 2 1/2" S&W 629 (before S&W's sell-out.

When I was nine years old, I begged my dad to take me out to shoot his S&W Model 29 because I had seen an eight year old target shooting with a .38 in the local paper. I wanted to be just like my hero, Clint Eastwood as "Dirty" Harry Callahan by shooting "the most powerful handgun in the world."

We went that day to the local Fish & Game, and he asked me if I wanted to shoot it.

I hesitated and told him, "I don't know."

So he did what every great father has done to their sons to help raise them as men. He said, "C'mon wimp, I brought you out here to shoot this!"

So there I was, a nine year old boy holding a massive cannon with a .44 caliber, 240 grain bullet sitting in front of some H110 powder. I believe that was the heaviest piece of metal that I have ever held in all my nine years.

I remember he warned me not to pull the hammer back until I had my arms extended. (This makes an interesting story later on in life.)

After pulling the hammer to fire the Model 29 in single action, I squeeze the trigger like I did on the .22 Colt Diamondback.

Even with my ear muffs on, I heard the loud BOOM as the hand cannon lifted my arms up around a 45 degree angle to the ground. I handed the gun to my father who was grinning at me as I was rubbing my sore middle finger (I believe it was slammed into the trigger guard.)

Ever since then, the .44 Magnum has been my favorite caliber. Thank you Elmer Keith!

Last week I took this girl from work shooting. She's about 5'5 120 and kept teasing me about how she was going to be a better shot. I wanted to start her off on a Ruger .22 but she insisted on a K frame 3 inch revolver (it looked cool  ). The range guy handed me a bag of .357 instead of .38, I was going to exchange it, but since she was being such a smart@ss I decided to let her shoot the magnum load. Gee whiz woopdeedoo no big deal. She was unimpressed ! I however was, 3 inch groups at 7 yards with that gun for a beginner was pretty darn good. Not as good as me, but close. So then I sez, "Alright smarty pants, try this one, oh yea, one handed", I then produced a Govt. model 1911 and loaded the mag with some generic +p 200grn reloads. Now get this, with one hand her first shot was in the 10 ring at 10 yards on a 50ft NRA target. Damn ! I let her run through the entire box of .45 because she was having such a good time (not for fear I would shoot worse :o). Oh yea, she thought the .45 acp was a small bullet, and thought they would be larger (hate to be her boyfriend). Next time she wants to rent the .44 ...
