Who here carry a 10mm pistol

and what are you loading it with? How about caliber conversions?

I carry my Glock 29 gen 4 and loaded with Underwood 10mm 200 XTP. I have an LWD 40sw barrel for it. I also have an LWD 10mm extended barrel but I'm getting light strikes with it.

Because of that I'm leery of getting an LWD 9x25 Dillon barrel.

I've owned a G20 for years. The only time I use it is when hiking/camping in areas where bear are present. About 2 years ago I bought a G29 to have an even more compact gun that would still take the 15 round mags.

The guns are versatile enough for other uses too. I've carried one or the other on long trips as my only handgun. I load it with 155 gr loads at about 1400 fps for 2 legged threats. A magazine of 200 G Double Tap hardcast @ 1300 fps go in them in bear country.

While I like the round, I don't feel it offers any advantage on human threats over my G19 or G43 in 9mm. I'll carry one of those otherwise.

If I want to shoot 40S&W, they function just fine in the 10mm pistol and magazine. Accuracy is the same, no need for a conversion barrel with the Glocks.

Except the part where you're relying on the extractor to hold the rim/round against the breech fce since the case isn't long enough to headspace properly..........

While the 9mm can do their job against two legged threats I carry a 10mm in case of a fire breathing drug crazed and huge maniac.

This is after a story about a cop who encountered a threat that won't go down after 2 mags of 45acp until he had a chance to do a head shot with his 3rd mag and 4 rounds to spare. A lot of his shots were in the kill zone.

He said since then he's carrying 145 rounds.

I have 11 rounds in my G29 and three 15 rnd mags in the triple pouch on my belt.

I have G20 and 29 and an RIA 1911 in 10MM. I too carry one or 2 of them when in bear country. Out and about I don't carry 10MM because of lawyers! I take out a badguy with a 10MM some slick talking lawyer is going to label me killer using a round the EF BEE EYE found to strong to use. I carry what the police generally carry because of this!

PS, I love the 10MM !

I was about to acquire a Glock 20 for work, but switched to a company who issues a standard weapon rather than the broad latitude we were given before.

Glock 20 with 155s for 2 legged predators. Here in grizzly country, I carry a 12 gauge for those big boys....and the Glock too. Kind of heavy on the hardware, but when you are 30' from a grizzly it kind of makes you wish for a RPG. ...

My two primary-carry guns are a 10mm Kimber Eclipse and a .44mag S&W69. Last 4 months, it's been almost 100% the .44mag. That may continue during the winter when the bears are asleep.

I forgot to respond to the ammo question. In my 10mm Eclipse, I use DoubleTap, in various bullet weights (all Nosler JHP), alternating in each magazine. In the .44mag SW69, I use Underwood, with various JHP bullet weights in the winter, and 240gr bullet weights in the summer.

Well, I own three, but I don't carry one.My carry is a SIG P229 (40 cal or 357 SIG, not a 9). Maybe if I can come up with the scratch for onr of them new SIG P220 10mm pistols, I would think about it.

My 10mm stuff:
Dan Wesson Razorback 1911
Fusion Firearms long slide 1911
RIA 1911 (you seeing a trend here?)
a Mechtech CCU for 1911 type 10mm pistols so I can shoot my 10mm's in a carbine.
dies for reloading.
a ton of 180 grain projectiles
lots of Blue Dot powder
a whole lot of empty 10mm cases

G29sf

I carry a G29sf - more so in the cooler months were I can layer up some clothing and go OWB. It's a great gun. I love it.

My ammo of choice is Federal 180gn Hydra-Shok's. They're de-tuned a bit and that's okay (983 f/s G29; 988 f/s G20). I also sometimes carry HPR's 180gn XTP - and they are by no means de-tuned ;) (1219 f/s G29; 1232 f/s G20).

Maybe this is for the Reloading section:

I load for 10mm (who doesn't?). My "hot" load is 11.7gn AA#7 (1193 f/s G29; 1226 f/s G20) under a Hornady 180 XTP. I noticed Duck of Death uses AA#9 - and lots of other loaders do as well. But IMO #9 is too slow for the application. I'm sure #9 eeks out a little more velocity, but it comes at the expense of much bigger flash and recoil. AA#7 produces a more "balanced" round for the gun mass and barrel length. You give up some velocity, yes; but you get back a much more manageable round that still has plenty of power. Just the opinion of a guy who's getting older and considers other characteristics than just sheer velocity.

My general range shooting load is 8.8gn AA#5 under a 180gn X-treme (plated) flat point (1046 f/s G29; 1063 f/s G20). And it roughly emulates the Hydra-Shok; so it's good practice for me.

Ever check to see what your split times are with that combo?

I would not tolerate that much recoil for SD ammo.

From a Glock 20: 1,261 fps / 706# KE / PF 252
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFUAmIgR918

5 shot averages from my pistols, ascending KE:
Glock 20 SF
Hornady 175 gr. Critical Duty @ 1,146 fps / 510# KE / PF 201
Corbon 150 JHP @ 1,276 fps / 542# KE / PF 191
Hornady 155 XTP @ 1,335 fps / 614# KE / PF 207

Glock 29 SF
Hornady 175 gr. Critical Duty: 1,077 fps / 451# KE / PF 188 (-69fps)
Corbon 150 JHP @ 1,222 fps / 497# KE / PF 183 (-54 fps)
Hornady 155 XTP: 1,278 fps / 562# KE / PF 198 (-57 fps)

My Glock 29 averages 60 fps slower than the 20.

Apply that loss to the 200 gr. Underwood load above and 1,200 fps from a Glock 29 is a reasonable estimate.
200 gr. @ 1,200 fps = PF 240

I'm challenged to get a 1/3 second average split given the criteria of both 1st & 2nd shot hitting a 6 inch circle at 7 yards from my 29 SF - ammo with a PF of ~190.

I guess if 2nd shot times don't matter, neither does recoil.

To answer the question; yes, I sometimes carry a 10mm, with one of the loads I listed.
