Who has used a revolver in home self defense?

Who here has had to fire their revolver in their home in self defense? I'd like to hear the story, if you'd care to tell it, and also your reaction to shooting the ammo inside, perhaps with no time to grab ear protection, etc. Also, not to be morbid, but an evaluation of how the ammo type worked, or maybe didn't.

I understand that for various reasons, people may not want to share many details, but I would appreciate any responses that do come in. Thanks.

PS. Not interested in home semi-auto stories. But I think in this forum I'm safe.

i can only answer the question about firing inside without hearing protection. LOUD! although, when you do it, you most likely wont really notice, adrenaline will be pumping and blocking most everything out. it will be later, when everything calms down, that you notice there is a ringing in your ears. it goes away, comes back sometimes. but there isnt always a better option. you need to hear, and with most hearing pro, that isnt an option

Fortunately, I've never actually had to fire my revolver at a home invader, though I have drawn it in response to an attempted break-in. Your basic point is very well taken though, SJ. We often forget just how LOUD a round going off inside actually is. When we shoot for practice we (quite wisely) use ear protection to prevent damage to hearing, but in a true life shooting situation, that is obviously not possible. I once (and I am NOT recommending this!) fired off two rounds in an indoor range without hearing protection quite on purpose. I simply wanted to see how it would affect me. My ears rang for two days afterward!

I wasn't just asking for purposes of finding out how loud ammo is indoors. I can guess it is ear-piercing, although in many stories it isn't heard because of adrenaline.

Mainly I was asking because we all own guns here... for hunting, plinking, competition, collection, targets, carry, whatever... but no matter the reason we shoot we all have one gun designated for "home defense." I was just wondering who here has ever had the unfortunate but necessary situation when they pulled/used one, and what it was like. These events are usually pretty memorable, so I thought those who were willing to share might make this an interesting thread. But I can certainly understand why those wouldn't want to tell their story. But for those who will, I thank you in advance.

most stable people who have to shoot someone in defense of themselves or others will not want to relive it, let alone tell a stranger about it over the internet. if you want to get this info, go talk to some older cops, who likely used a 38 at work when they were young
