Who has owned a Llama .380?

I've got an opportunity to get into one of these (a new-model Micromax) at a good price, but I wanted to hear from TFLers who have actual experience with them first.

I'm not a fan of the .380, but I need a pocket pistol with more oomph than my Beretta .25 with Magsafes (and .32s don't have much more oomph than a .25 with Magsafes). The Llama seems flat and small enough that it might work.

I managed a gun store for two years right after college ('88-'90) and we would occasionally stock the Llama .380s back then. They seemed to have nice fit and finish, and no one ever returned one complaining that it didn't work. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear from TFLers who've actually owned these - how reliably do they feed ball/hp, how many rounds have you fired, are they decently accurate, and around when was your gun made?

Thanks for letting me take up your time.
cheers,
erich

I've been around one and it has sent parts flying everytime it is shot requiring a trip to the gunsmith. A lot of people talk well of the Bersa .380 and I have had good experiences with the Colt Mustang .380.

Erich, If you are going to go .380, then I would suggest a Bersa. There have been quite a few words passed on these guns and I don't believe there were to many bad ones. I have a
Bersa Md#83A that I purchased used and I like it. Is a good little gun for the money.Nice finish and tight fit and its a good shooter,Have had no problems with it what so ever.
I believe the later models were called Thunderers or something like that and I believe they now became the Firestorm but I'm not sure about that one. There was something posted here not to long ago about the Llama and I don't believe it got rave reviews. Anyway FWIW I hoped this helped :)
Happy Shooting :)

My step-father has one he collected from an ex-LEO friend. It's a psuedo-copy of the 1911 design, without the grip safety if I remember correctly. Fit and finish are better (barely) than mediocre.

The weapon fires fine, with (again) mediocre accuracy.

My overall impression was that it was a lower quality weapon than I would ever want for my own arsenal, and a bit large for the round it fires.

Better options would be a used Colt Mustang, Walther PP series, or SIG 230 or 232. To be honest, I would prefer a good small frame .38 over any of the above except maybe the Mustang.
