Does anyone here wish to give a review of this pistol?

I have seen a few people on this board and several others talking about getting this pistol, but no one ever said how they liked them.

Rock Island...isn't that a subsidiary of Charles Daly? Aren't they just a re-labeling of the Charles Daly 1911's made in the Philippines?

Nope,

From what I have read they are two totally different companies operating out of the Phillipines.

One is Armscor and I am unsure of the other. There is more info available at 1911forum.com on this subject.

I have one. It is a very good GI type pistol. No improvements, just GI all of the way. My has a six pound trigger, about like old guns. But the thing is well put together, and not a Charles Daly. Made by Twin Pines, in phill.
I thought it would make an excellent beginning for a custom gun, but after using it for a few weeks I realized here is one of the few examples of what a GI 1911 is supposed to be. The thing is well fitted, with some care in assembly. I'm not deep into it yet, but it feels and looks better than Auto Ord., Charles Daly, and Llama.
For a hardball gun for personal defense I would say go for it. It does feed Remington JHP also. With a good trigger and just a little better sights (Kings no gunsmtihing)this would be a very good but inexpensive gun. Grips are wood and pretty nice.

I just got back from looking at a few different Rock Island 45's in a couple different local stores. I think they would make a good frst 1911 purchase. I am not a 1911 expert, and have actually never owned one. I am really close now though.

Check your grips, one of the ones I saw today had plastic grips with a wood grain cover of some sort on it, it felt like wood though, but right in the center it was worn down from the box or something and was really plastic.

What is the going price for these? One shop wanted $599 check and $459 cash, and the other wanted $359???

Has anyone torn one apart and looked at the internals? How about interchangeability with Colts? Is this a gun I can get and be able to customize later on down the road?

Absolom, you said the Hammer was wobbly? Is this something that you can fix or replace? Or is it the holes internally that are bad?
