Who has a good nipple wrench?

My first BP problem. I'm sitting there watching Lonesome Dove - Comanche Moon (appropriately) and I figure..."Hey! Why not break down my new 1858 that I haven't cleaned yet. I take my nipple wrench....which worked....as in DID....on my 1851 Navy and proceded to tear it up on the Remington cylinder. It fit, but I couldn't budge the nipples and tore the stupid wrench up.

I know they aren't the stoutest tools around, but does anyone know of a GOOD one?
 
then make sure you do two things when you get it.
FIrst i went through two of them.

Purchase a good one hardened. then harden it again.

I heated mine up plenty good and hot. then put it in some nice ice cold water.

Now after you get out the nipples. Clean them do what ever. But when you go to install it coat it with some antisieze. I coat them all with antisieze now. Then same time i take them out everytime i shoot and clean them. Makes it easier to clean the cylinder too.
 
Nipple wrenches

Bought a few not too long ago from Dixie. They work great for me. I got three different sizes that all have a practical purpose. Colt large frame, Remington cylinder and Colt pocket models. I have not been disappointed yet!

The Doc is out now. :cool:
 
Actually I would like to replace them as they take #9 caps which nobody makes anymore. That old gun has had thousands of rounds put through it and it stayed in my moms attic from the late 70's till about a year ago. They're not battered or corroded but I imagine it'd take an act of congress and a Philadelphia lawyer with a 4 ft. cheater pipe to get them out now.:D
 
Hey Hawg, where do you come up with these
old cap and ball guns? i thought mine at 12 and
15 years was old, it just goes to show, i thought
there was not a lot of intrest back then in 69,
in black powder shooting, well i guess i was wrong.
Did you find anything else in your moms loft of
intrest, gun wise that is.:rolleyes:
 
The Traditions $28.50 one might be good, but don't buy any $7 ones. I had them ship one expedited ($15) and it failed before removing one nipple. Ended up making one that works well.
 
Long Rider, I bought that gun brand new when I was 12 and no there wasn't a lot of interest in them back then. Pretty much everything in moms attic I put there. There's an old Burgo .22 if ya want it.:rolleyes: I've got a 58 Enfield that's getting on up in age and a Hawken that's prolly over 20. I guess I could look up the dates but I'm too lazy to right now.:D

i find it very intresting what people store and forget what
they have. ( check this out ) My buddys live on farms in
s.e kansas, well dave troxall good freind of mine, hes a
painter, he did this job for this lil old lady, when he finshed
the job she asked him if he would clear her loft for her,
she said she would pay a little xtra for the task, she had
not bin up there since her hubby died in ww2, any way
he told me he could not beleve his eyes, he said he counted
at lest 150 genuine saa colts in this huge trunk, he spoke
to her about them and she said her son was going to take them
for action one day:eek:.Wish i could have seen them, it just
goes to show you never know what you can come across:D
 
Cheap German import. 1 inch barrel, .22 short, da only revolver. Has about a 25 lb. trigger pull. I'd have to tie a five dollar bill to it before I threw it in the river to be able to say I threw something away.

Yup I had one a many years ago, kinda reminds me of a few cars that I get my hands on to fix for some customers, you have to pay the salvage man to take it from you... :p

The one I had might fire 2-3 time out of 6, & I might hit what I was aiming at once!!! :eek:
 
When I first read this my thought was for the gal with the nipple rings at the airport...thought someone was going to make a nipple wrench to remove her rings.....:D
