Who could be the manufacturer of this 38 special ammo?

I was given some rounds of this ammo as a gift. The brass is starline, but other than that there is nothing to help me identify the manufacturer. The bullet is Full Metal Jacket Flat Point. EDIT: it is metal PLATED, not jacketed
It was bulk packaged, cardboard box of 500.

I would like to know who the manufacturer could be.
Could it be Bitteroot Valley Ammo & Components (BVAC)?

The OP identified the Starline brass.

Buffalo Bore uses that, I believe, but I have never seen FMJ BB.

Georgia Arms does; not sure if Atlanta Arms uses Starline. Both of them sell reloaded / factory reman FMJ.

I was going to say "It looks just like my reloads using Berrys #00616 copper plated 158 grain flat point" until I took a look at one of my bullets and the oglive is definately different.

Have you pulled one of the bullets and made sure it is jacketed and not plated.

This is inexpensive ammo, therefore definitively not Buffalo Bore.

I used a knife to slightly scrape the bullet, and got some very fine metal chips. I don't know if this is enough to say its jacketed, or if I need to go deeper to see if I get (or not) lead.

Bottom line........it could be from anyone; a good reloader, or a Bubba. Could make you smile, could blow your gun up.
Enjoy.

More companies are beginning to use the term metal plated instead of FMJ, Jacketed or plated especially on gilded bullets, don't worry about the metal plated designation. Anything from cupronickel to steel can be used and they are all metal. We are used to calling bullets jacketed, semi jacketed or plated. We have a metal shell filled with lead, or bullets are plated with metal so strictly speaking they are correct.

Could have been made in anyones garage. Not a major manufacturer for sure. If it were a large ammo/ or reloading company they would have at least put their name on the box.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is that primer crimped? If it is, it's a good bet they weren't put together in Bubba's garage.

Good catch! Upon a second look, it does appear that the primer is crimped.

So now Bubba's built a machine gun that fires 38 Special ammo  and had to also come up with a reloading setup to crimp the primers so they wouldn't fall out when cycled through the action. Bubba sounds like my kind of people, I would like to meet him.

Mods might need to move this to the NFA section.

Have a great day!
