Who Shot the Fridge Out? It's been a difficult couple of months for the Capitol Police, who are still reeling from an Inaugural Day mishap in which a stranger was allowed to have an "unscheduled" handshake with President Bush.
Now comes word that a refrigerator in the Capitol was "wounded" over the weekend in a bizarre incident involving a Capitol Police officer.
Several officers were preparing for their 3 p.m. roll call on Sunday when the cops were suddenly sent scurrying by a gunshot that rang out in the break room on the terrace level of the Capitol.
Was there a suspect in their midst? Nope. One source told HOH that a cop "toying with his Glock" had pumped a bullet into the break room's refrigerator.
Capitol Police spokesman Lt. Dan Nichols confirmed to HOH that there was such an incident, but refused to discuss the details.
"An officer had a discharge of his weapon in the Capitol break room on Sunday," said Nichols.
He added, "Fortunately, no one was injured."
Nichols said the officer, whose name is being withheld by officials, has been suspended with pay.
The officer's police privileges have also been "revoked," pending an investigation by the force's internal affairs division.
Nichols refused to disclose whether the force has since purchased a new refrigerator
