NEW YORK (AFP) - Police were called to the New York offices of US Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer after a white powder was found in a letter received in the mail, police said.

"A staffer at Senator Schumer's office opened a letter that was received in the mail with no return address and contained a white powder," Detective Kevin Czartoryski said.

Police later said that the powder was found to be not toxic but that an investigation would be carried out. A spokesman could not say whether the sender of the letter, if found, would be subject to criminal prosecution.

Another Anthrax scare. The last time this happened Congress lined up and voted for the USA Patriot Act without even reading it.

Sure, but that's the whole point, isn't it? Until they find out what the substance is, they have to treat it like a serious threat.

Or it could be another type of white powder.;) Nose sugar if you catch my drift. It would be interesting to see Chuck Schumer get caught with cocaine.:D
