Today while visiting with my local FFL, I saw a hex Tula 91/30 sitting there and all the bands and sling boss's are brass, I have never seen one with brass fittings. So I gave her a new home. It will look really good after some polishing on the brass. Its a pre war rifle, so I guess it makes sense. Any of you seen these?? Are they common prewar fittings?

I will get some pics up, when I get back home thursday. I'm not going to refinish the stock because it absolutely beautiful, but those brass fittings are begging for some jewelers rouge.

I have a 1942 Mosin w/brass end caps on the top hand guard.

Yeah that's what this one has, maybe I should have said that instead of bands. The bands that hold the front of the stock on are steel and black, but the "end caps" and sling boss' in the stock are brass. Are your Sling boss' brass too?

No, my sling boss's are not. I wish they were. I picked my rifle out of a lot of them & mine was the only one in the bunch with the brass end caps.

I've got one too, but, I think they are all brass just some are painted. I'll have to check.

edit: Correction, I had one. Sold it last year.

I don't think they used brass sling bosses (sling slot escutcheons). They should be steel, but look brass because they have shellac on them.

The Soviets used several materials for the handguard caps, several methods of attaching them and different finishes. The Brass ones are pre WWII and uncommon.

The brass was not common, but it's around on a lot of Mosins. I like it and will select one with brass, all things being equal. Mosins are cheap enough I like to think I'm collecting them !
