I just bought a nice Detective Special in a moment of weakness. I've been feeling a guilty because funds are a little tight and I didn't really NEED it. I got to thinking, if I had to sell my 3" SP101 or the DS which one would go. I couldn't decide on which or either so I am putting it out there for your help.

I love my SP, but I know it's still in production and unchanged with no goofy frame-locks or anything.

Sell the SP over the DS.

While the Ruger is certainly a good gun, I'd keep the Detective Special because:

A: It's a classic
B: They don't make them anymore so its value will increase and
C: As Elmer Fudd would say: "More Buwetts!"

I'd try to keep both. The value of the Detective, as stated, will be better down the road. BUT if I HAD to sell one...I would pick the one I had less sentimental value for.

Longbowshooter,

The purpose is not to try to keep up with the "joneses", the purpose is to get what you want and then proudly show it on the boards.

Don't get rid of either.

Unless there is something that you cannot overcome with one or the other, you really have no justification of getting rid of either or. Just MHO is all.

The guns that I've gotten rid of, were from factors that I could not overcome (bad trigger, cylinder binding, etc..).

This will raise a few eyebrows but I've kept and maintained, with no problems from them, a Jennings .22 and a Tech 9. And I have sold a Kel-Tec and a Taurus. I also gave as gifts a P-89 and a P-95 9mm Rugar Series pistols. Great guns, but the grip really sucked.

So unless you have something that you don't like on both, just keep and find ways to ensure that all other bills can be paid.

Sell the SP to me... Sell it, sell it... give me a deal now... how much you want for it? Ooops I'm currently stationed in Korea so... :D It all depends on what you have planned for your pistols. Are you going to use it or keep it as a safe queen? josh

Thanks. So far the keep both is winning for me. None of my guns are safe queens. I have wanted a DS for a while because the 6 shot capability and small size. The guilt (really buyers remorse) came from it being close to winter and I work in construction so business is beginning to slow down and I always worry about money. I think I would regret selling the DS in the Spring when business is good again and the 3" SP is such a great gun I would hate getting rid of it too. So for now I guess they both stay.

Thanks for your advice.
