if you had to pick one. or the walther p99. these all "look" good to me. never shot any of them. any comments on any of these pistols would be very helpful in my decision. thanks!

I have had the opportunity to shoot the 2340 and the Smith version of the Walther 99. Both are extremely accurate, but I did not like the long trigger pull on the 99.

Also, depends on your criteria. Are you looking for a gun w/ a safety? I haven't handled a Sig Pro, but which one fits better? Is price an issues? Which one is the better deal? You may wanna try shooting your candidates prior to purchase and buy the one that works best for you.

what to buy

I have a Sig Pro 2340 and love it. It is reliable and accurate and comes with 2 grips so you can select the one that fits you best. I've shot it in one IDPA match with good results. I give it a thumbs up.

Own two of them, a friend owns the third.
What are you looking for in a gun? What is the intended purpose of this gun?
The Cougar is the heaviest of the three, being the only metal one. It handles like and feels like a Beretta 92. It has been accurate for me. Recoil is reasonable.
The Walther feels a little thick for carry, though a lot of people use it that way. It is light, and has a long double-action first trigger pull. The de-cocker is mounted on the top of the slide, and is a button instead of a switch. It is kind of funny to use, requiring you to move one of your hands.
The controls of the SigPro are located the same as a Sig Classic. I find the felt recoil to be higher on this pistol than the others.

Another option in this class of gun is the Steyr M series. Just for giggles, take a look at one. It's a love it or lump it kinda gun. You decide.

Of the two original choices, I'd probably go with the SIG Pro. Personal Prefrence is my only guiding light there. While I respect Italy's Big B gun maker - I'm not a big fan. That's only a personal opinion based on the way the B's fit my hand. It's like a finely crafted and hand taylored italian suit... taylored for someone else.
