Which states outlaw open carry?

I searched through some of the previous threads but didn't find a clear cut answer. I'm thinking of getting into trucking if I don't succeed in the law enforcement field. And provided I find a company that doesn't mind me carrying while on the job, I want to know what states if any that I might be traveling through, who don't allow open carry without a license. I'm not worrying about concealed carry here since I know the hassle of that issue from state to state and I don't want to complicate this too much.

So, for open carry, on the hip, fully loaded, with or without a round in front of the firing pin, which states frown up on it?

Someone told me, Vermont maybe, U have to register the gun with the state. If ur caught with a gun that hasn't been entered into there system, it's a manditory 2 years. I don't know if I believe that, or if there is any truth to that. But u never know. I suggest calling the ATF. They are the most friendly government people I have ever talked to. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help u with that. Granted the ATF is at a federal level and u are asking about at a State level. I'm kinda curious about that also, please post ur findings.

Washington's law is annoyingly vague: it's illegal to display a weapon in a manner or under circumstances which "warrant alarm for the safety of others." What it amounts to is if a hoplophobe spots your gun and gets the vapors, you might be hosed.

However, we're shall-issue CCW for residents and non-residents alike, there's no training requirement, and permits are cheap.

Arkansas. There really is no "open carry" unless you are hunting or on your own property. You cannot carry a handgun for personal defense in public areas unless you have a permit, then the handgun must be concealed. The charge is "carrying a prohibited weapon" for those without a permit and that applies to both open or concealed carry. There is a defense of being on a "journey" but IMO a disorderly conduct charge would still stick for open carry in public.

Gun registry in Vermont? Incorrect.

Federal law banning guns in "commercial" vehicles? Incorrect.

As you can see, you stand to get a lot of bad information using this data collection method. Your best bet is to research it yourself. Everytime I travel to another state, I do web searches, packing.org, and then I call the State Police and sometimes the locals as well.

Then you better be careful which states you carry in commercial vehicle because its illegal in tennessee. So if you are stopped with one in the vehicle you are going to jail in tennessee. I know this because i've bonded the drivers out before.

If carrying proper self defense tools is illegal in Tennessee (state law), I'm going to have my deferred comp rep look for a good highway robbery mutual fund which invests in Tennessee criminal activity. I'd expect a high rate of return.

I'd also investigate if such a law is on the books, if I were a trucker going to TN.

Federal Land

I think you can open carry on certain Federal lands. I think it is kosher to do so on BLM land unless it is specifically prohibited at a particular location.

And provided I find a company that doesn't mind me carrying while on the job

This will be the problem. I maintain a very expensive commercial insurance policy similar to policies used by trucking companies. Most companies require the insured to have a written policy prohibiting firearms in insured vehicles. Virtually all commercial policies I have seen prohibit firearms in insured vehicles.

The Free Republic of Alaska.

Cash and carry...........if you have the cash and can lift it.......knock yourself out.:D
Open carry.
Concealed carry both w/ AK CHL and permitless (VT style) your choice.
AK honors all CHLs. Don't have one? That's okay because even out-of-state visitors can VT carry here too. Even those of you from the CSSR (California Soviet Socialist Republic):D

Here in Kansas you can open carry but can not carry concealed.

Two weeks ago the police Cheif of my city brought it to the attention of the city council that open carry was legal in our city (some other cities in Kansas wont allow open carry) and wanted to get a new law passed to ban it. The city council said that if an open carry ban was passed that it would infringe on the rights of gun owners who would then be considered criminals for doing something like carrying a new rifle out of Wal-Mart to their car to take home. Hooray for common sence!!!!!
