Which should I purchase?

It's that time again: time to starting seriously looking for another one. My question is in regard to the "assault weapons ban".

Let's say for the sake of argument that I'm interested in a revolver or semi-auto pistol and that it's within my price range. No problem buying it.

However, due to the current political climate and Brady Bill, I'm considering one of those "black rifles". I don't want to lose my opportunity to purchase one. If I purchase the rifle, it will cost more than the handgun, especially if I order extra mags and put a scope on it. But I'll have it. And Bushmaster looks awfully fine.
However, I no virtually nothing about ARs other than some of the fine info on this board.

Which shall I go with? Have you purchased a specific firearm because you anticipate that it may not be available in the future?

I would go with an imported AK or FAL first - imported guns seem to get the axe first. Bushmaster, being domestic, has a better chance to stick around longer.

Obviously, you guys aren't from the land of Oz...aka California. 1st we got a list of specific assault rifles we couldn't own, then they listed attributes of rifles we couldn't own (ie. detachable mags of 10 or more rounds, pistol grip, flash suppressor) and then this year a flat out ban on all assault rifles. When it starts, it starts, Bacchus, get what YOU want...foreign or domestic and keep it! If it were me, I'd get another HK 93. :D Good luck on your quest!

'Sounds like if you want a pistol, no problem. It's the rifle purchase you want to discuss, so ... off to Art of the Rifle.

I second buying an import first. The prices will only go up.LOL, here in MA it's the opposite. We can buy black rifles but are VERY limited on handgun choices.

I sorta played hockshop for a fella and wound up with a Bushmaster 20" match target with a Tasco 6X24 on it.

Stock trigger group. (SFAIK, all brands' stock triggers are about the same.) Were I serious, I'd either stone it and re-harden the trigger and sear, or install a Jewell.

Accuracy? 1/2" groups. The scope shoots within 1/2" for one shot at 6X and one shot at 24X.

It's a bit heavy, though, at about nine pounds.

FWIW, Art
