I would say that's too much. That's at _least_ $150 more than I would pay.

I would pay around $350 for the M28. I tend to pull out my wallet for less than that but $350 is a fair price.

I've got a near mint 19-3 that I consider superior to either one you mentioned and I only paid $325 plus shipping for it.

I do like the 586-0 models. I need to get one of those myself. In really great condition they are very nice looking. Another $350-$375 gun. You pay more if you really want one but that's a fair price.

Of my .357 Smiths, I shoot my M28-0 more than any other. Of course it helps that it has been brushed chromed so it feels like I can carry and shoot it as much as I want. My _favorite_ .357 is my Ruger Flattop 50th Anniversary Blackhawk. What a great gun. Oh, and my Ruger Security Six from 1982!

I recently purchased a mint Model 28-2, P&R for $239. They usually sell for $250-300 around here, a bit more in other areas. If the price on the Model 28 is right, that would be my pick.

Model 19s also go for $200-250 around my area.

$750 for a Model 27 is to darned much. Try $400.

Where do you live? California or Mass?

I WISH I saw vintage S&W revolvers like that in NE Oklahoma!! I end up buying everything on the internet since I've never been able to find a gunstore with decent prices on the old stuff.

Enjoy it! I would be broke for sure with all the money I would be saving!

I think with that selection would be a very hard decision for me, to tough to call without seeing them but do have a thing for the M19:)

Forget the 27, he's WAY out of the ballpark. As for box, papers etc, they are only of value at resale /if you are a collector.
The 586 and 28 are likely worth the most but not more than $400 tops for either. $350 would be more likely. The 19's would be worth $275-$350 depending on condition. I'd bet you'd be happy with any of them.

That's a pretty darn good price on the Mod 28, Mike, assuming the weapon truly is in good shape as you indicate. I have one of those old N-frame Mod 28 Highway Patrolman revolvers myself, and they are built like tanks. I'm assuming you intend this for range work, since they are rather bulky and heavy for concealed carry.

The 27 is the best of the bunch

I hate to disagree with every one here but that price is NOT to high for a
5 inch. That gun is one of the best 357 made and that includes Pythons.
The one thing that makes this gun worth so much is that the 5 inch is very rare and what I consider one of the best wheel guns in 357 ever made.
I have owned one and made the mistake selling it.
It might be a little high but I would buy it for anything under 700$
I have a large number of N frame smiths and consider the 5 inch 27 to be one of the best smiths ever built.
My next would be the 25 in 45 colt.
after that I would pick the 28.
I dont like 19's there just to light for mags.

Ozzie, you're probably right. I just can't see paying that kind of a premium to get a 5 inch barrel (or a mint example for that matter) on a gun that's going to be a shooter.

Well I hate to tell you this but the 5 inch was one of the 2 most popular barrel lenghts of the M27. The 2 best selling barrel lengths of the early M27 were the 3 1/2" and the 5". In fact around the time frame of that particular M27 the 3 1/2" and 5" barrel were finally dropped and the 4" was added.

BTW....$750 is way to much for a late M27-2.

Majic is right about the model 27 being introduced with 3 1/2 and 5 inch barrels but I doubt that those lengths were the most popular. The Blue Book of Gun Values give those specific lengths a substantial premium in estimated value over all other lengths and, as most people know, premiums are generally the by-product of scarcity, all other things being equal. Certainly, in my over forty years of prowling countless gunshows, the 3 1/2 and 5 inch are the model 27s I've seen the fewest of. In fact, if I had to guess, I'd say the 5" was encountered less than even the 31/2".
All conjecture, of course, but I like to think at least an educated guess.:)
