hi folks,

i have a s&w 25-13 mountain man 1-300 LC and i wan to buy an additional cylinder. I bought a cylinder for 25-5 LC because i though was the same, i receive it today but is maybe 1/4 inch smaller, when i check again the models in gunparts they have parts for 25-2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 but HOW to know which of this models have similar cylinder like my 25-13?

if i found a place to see the dimensions of the cylinders of this 8 models is a good step because i can compare with the dimensiones of my cylinder.

thanks in advance for any help.

I have a feeling the cylinder you bought is for .45ACP, not .45LC. The Model 25 has been offered in both .45LC and .45ACP, but the cylinders will differ. That may be all you need to distinguish.

well, i have the gunparts invoice in front of me and say 25-2 45LC

anyway, how to know which model of 25 have the same cylinder than my 25-13?

Something you may want to edit, in your title, you have a 25 vs a 23-13. The Model 23 is very different than the M25 in that the M23 was chambered for .38 Special (actually .38-44 high-velocity, but the two cartridges are dimensionally identical) and was never produced in a -13 configuration.

IT WOULD SEEM TO ME, they sent you the wrong cylinder, PERIOD. The ONLY short 45 cylinders are in 45ACP/AR for a M25-2 and the short 45COLT cylinder from the M25-3 which was mostly a commemorative 45COLT gun.
THE M25-5 has ALWAYS been the long cylinder in 45COLT, the same length as the M29 44MAG cylinder as a matter of fact.

As Will Terry said, there would be your problem, the 25-2 uses a short cylinder. The first model 25 to use the longer 45 Colt cylinders are the 25-5.

In addition, a replacement cylinder would have to be fitted, it is not a drop in.

Model 25-9 is .45 Colt. This will possibly provide better accuracy than a 25-5 because the throat is closer to .452. some 25-5's are a bit larger. I know this from experience because I own both models.

The 25-9 was the last regular production model in 1990. Later model 25's were commemorative or special issues. I think that the 25-9 will be the closest to the 25-13.
