I'm going to shoot my first bench competition this Saturday. 400 yard range. I have shot out that far before but never competing. Most of my shooting is just 100 yards trying out reloads. I've got the choice of two rifles, both with 20 inch barrels. Savage 308 with 6x20x40 viper shooting 178 Amax at 100 at 0.380. My other is a Tikka CTR in 260 with a Nightforce SHV 4.5x14x56 shooting 140 Sierra Match Kings at 100 yards at 0.285. I'm more comfortable with the Nightforce scope as the turret clicks are more precise than the Vortex. I do shoot the 260 a lot better on average in good conditions no wind Ect. Which rifle would be the best for this. This is all new to me but I want to do it. I shoot steel out to 600 yards sometimes but they are 1 ft by 2 ft plates. This will be judged by groups on paper.
