Hi All

Looking through the gun list, and trying to decide which gun to buy.

I am a beginning Long Gunner

Uses: Ocassional plinking (I have to drive many miles to go to a place to fire long guns) Self-Defense. I already have a handgun, but this is just in case the world come to an end. It needs to be cheap, as some of the guns below are.

Romanian 1969 .22LR
M39 Mosin Nagant
Czech VZ 24
M44 Russian
K98 German Carbine
t38 8 mm Mauser
Romanian SKS 7.62*39
Mosin Nagant 91/30
MASS 36/51
Lee Enfield .308

Which would you pick out of this list. I also live in Kalifornia, so are any of these illegal in Kalifornia.

Has anyone dealt with SOG, which has some ads in GUN LIST

Pitts, your first problem is reading Gun list. I know because my wish list grows with every issue also. :D
I suspect you will get endorcements from members that own one or more of the rifle's you've suggested. Admittedly I've only owned one of the list, the Lee Enfield, and speak highly of it. I can't comment on any of the others except from what I have read both here and on other boards.
I can, however, comment on Southern Ohio Guns (SOG). I have ordered from them in the past and have always gotten exactly what was advertised in the condition they stated.
As far as California legal you may want to narrow down your choices and then ask in Legal & Political.

If you're looking for a battle rifle, go with the SKS (I'm not sure if they are Kali legal though). Ammo is cheap, the Romanian rifles are very good and cheap too. You might want to consider a NEF Handi-Rifle if the SKS is not legal in Kali. They are very accurate, for sure legal and inexpensive too. Look for a Handi-Rifle in .223 as they are very easy on recoil and ammo is cheap. And finally, buy a copy of Jeff Cooper's THE ART OF THE RIFLE and study it to get the most from your long gun.

I'd go with the SKS. Good, fun, reliable little gun and ammo is as cheap as it gets. Last Cow Palace show had Wolf 7.62x39 @ $79 per 1000 rounds. The fixed mag SKS' are still legal in California. Just saw them advertised "on sale" in a NorCal newspaper a couple of weeks ago. But who knows what the future holds? Buy it now, before it's too late.

One more for the SKS. Feeding it is cheap and you can gets lots of cosmetic items to make em look cool. Recoil is practically non-existant as well.
