Which revolvers are pinned and recessed?

Was S&W the only one to do this? Having recently bought a S&W 19-3, I have become more interested in the history of revolvers. These features are mentioned as a sign of quality. But I see than some S&W's never had these features at all.

Only the rimfires and the magnums had the P&R features until the early 1980s. No it was never needed as other maker's revolvers performed quite well without those features.

The .38 special revolvers were pinned but not recessed until 1984, when the pinning was done away with, IIRC. The rimfires and magnums were recessed as well being pinned.

Not being P&R is not a sign of poor quality, but a P&R revolver is almost always a sign of quality. If not, then a P&R gun is at least a sign of a pinned and recessed gun......;)

Some of the early Astra revolvers were pinned (definitely) and recessed (maybe). You don't see them very often.

Astra

I recently purchased an Astra 357 about a month ago. It is both recessed and pinned. When I bought it I didn't even notice this, I only noticed it a few nights ago. (To be truthful I wasn't really clear on the pinned term until fairly recently, the recessed part just flat slipped by me). I wish I knew a little more about the gun, as it seems to be fairly good quality for what it is. It has the original Astra wood service grips, and a three inch barrel. Cosmetically, it is not much to look at as the finish is almost completely gone, and it is pitted in several places. However, it has very little rust, and the mechanics on it function perfectly. It locks up very tight. It is a BIG gun. Certainly bigger than a K-frame, maybe bigger than an L-frame. However, the grip frame is pretty close to a K/L frame as I have tried some grips on it. So, if anyone knows anything about these guns, especially around the time mine would've been made, please let me know.
