A couple of months ago there was a .45 ACP S&W Revolver featured in a popular gun magazine. It had a short cylinder and the barrel extended under the top strap. This made the barrel look about an inch shorter than it really is. Which model in this ?
It's the 625-10. Go to the S&W web site and you can find the specs. I wish I could tell you more, but I haven't handled one yet. You could also try doing a search for this gun on this and other forums like the smith-wesson forum or The High Road forum.
Look in the Performance Center area on the S&W wep page. What they did was shorten the cylinder to .45ACP length, which allowed the barrel to come under the topstrap. It is still a 2" barrel, but it doesn't protrude 2" out of the frame. It's a tough little bulldawg looking gun.
I measured the cylinder in my 325PD (pictured below) which is listed as having a 2 1/2" barrel. The most you could shorten the cylinder and still fit a loaded 45 ACP 230gr round would be another 3/10" This means that with the short cylinder and the profile of a 3" barrel, you would only have a 3.3" usable barrel length. Doens't seem worth the aggrevation.
Richard,
My Canadian cousin, what are you doing this south of the border?
I agree this one looks like a nice one. Would you let me know when it is 30 years old and fetchs those prices I can afford?
I like the fact that S&W and some others are offering some nice stuff these days but I'd agree the prices are kinda steep for us working guys.
