Which Remington shotguns are prone to explode?

Well if VPC said it, that's good enough for me! I'd want more details. 2-3k over a 30 YEAR period? I'm sure you wouldn't have too much trouble over a 30 year period finding that many people who dropped a 20 gauge shell down a barrel and followed it up with a 12 gauge, etc. and then blamed it on Remington. Especially since they claim 50,000 people whose Glocks fired "unintentionally". It probably happened when they were in their Audis that all of a sudden leaped forward when all they were doing was pushing down on the accelerator...

There was indeed a class action lawsuit against Remington. They settled with payment of damages real or feared. Naturally the many Remington customers each got a few bucks, the few lawyers got a lot of bucks.

There apparently is some risk. At one time Magnaport would not cut holes in Remington shotgun barrels because the found them subject to blowing off at the holes. On the other hand, millions of Remington shotguns have fired billions of shells without fault. I am not going to worry about it, I don't have but two anyhow.

The VPC is going to present anything in the worst possible light to gun makers, gun owners, and the NRA. The bill they oppose would not prevent suits over defective guns, it would just bar suing the gun company because a crook shot at you with one of their products.

It's a classic case of rampant ignorance. During all of this,The NRA found they could duplicate the damage shown by plugging the barrels of test guns with an inch of unpacked snow. They couldn't do it with high pressure proof loads.

Idiots plugged their muzzles, blew up their guns, and blamed Remington. More idiots in jury boxes gave them money. Remington increased the metal in their barrels so a new barrel weighs .5 bs more than either an old one or one of the Light Contour barrels now offered.

Been shooting 870s since the 50s. No probs.

As for Magnaport, burning holes in things designed to contain high pressure may alter the ability to contain high pressure.

Duh.....

My 1100 is about 20 years old but it has not been used much only about 3,000,000 shells through it should i be woried????? hahah J/K I dont think my 1100 will blow up. I would also mark this one up as rampant ignorance.

Thanks everyone for responding. I'm very familiar with VPC, I was just wondering what the case was about, which models were affected and over what time frame. When I read in the .pdf that Remington had increased the amount of steel in their barrels that led me to believe that there actually was a problem.

Titus, I have heard some good returns BUT

That one sir, was a piece of art work, Im haveing trouble breathing from the laughter,
